Who has experience with smart TV? I sure hope they can develop a good product offering because l am tired of DSTV gymnastics while over charging. I am ready to move. Experiences? The laudable is more often than not rendered laughable by overclaim

@Barrywhite, there r two main things u need to know about smart tv decoders; first u should be living in an area where u've a good reception of KBC signal coz these STBs use their transmitters otherewise utaudhika. Secondly, these decoders belong to the 1st generation (DVB-T1) which r soon to 2 be replaced by the more superior DVB-T2 (in fact that's y they'r being dished out freely). That much l know. Yes it is true that the decoders will cease to receive any signal at the end of simulcast period [on midnight of 30th June 2012]. It would be worthwhile to wait for the DVB-T2 decoders that meet the CCK specs. Am sure sooner or later Smart TV will require you to upgrade your decoder soon after you buy. "..I am because we are. Got mine from Uchumi. Were it not for the fact that it is free, it is a major disappointment. Only KBC, K24 and EATV work, I'm unable to activate the paid channels (I think this is just lack of knowledge of procedure) then compound this with the fact that it will be extinct in a few months. Reception is decent though. Biggest problem for me though is that it takes up an AV channel, I would have wished for the signal from the decoder to have a frequency that can then take up a channel on the TV. As it is, the accessible AVs are taken up by the DVD, and PlayStation. The other AV sockets are hidden in the back.

That much l know. I talked to a representative at Uchumi Koinange street and i think she has no clue what is happening since she told me that the "free DVB is T2" and that one is able to receive all free to air channels and more for free. It appears this is not true.

Still not activated yet but I've just spoken to Customer Care. Yes they are currently facing challenges activating smart cards because of the surge. They are activating on instructions faxed to them by the resellers so there's a chance the guy who sold the thing to you hasn't faxed your form. T1 decoders which all these are will be valid in Nairobi even after the switch to T2. But if you are out of Nairobi they will exchange your T1 for a T2. The move to T2 is not eminent as srikal needs to cough up the moolah to facilitate this, so T1 will be with us for a while longer. Most of the other free channels will come on stream in a week. So if this guy is being truthful then there's nothing to worry about

@G.G, too many theories about a single product... here's what this agent told me, the guys who bought these T1 decoders back then @ Ksh5000 (l think) r actually the ones who'll get their's replaced with T2 decoders when it hits the market. But for the rest of us who r currently getting them for free... when T2 arrives u will've to buy it and not get a replacement like the guy who actually bought one!!! Most of these agents, imagine, won't tell u about T1 or T2 decoders unless u initiate that topic. We Will Either Find a Way or Create One - HANNIBAL
