It is a yes and a no. Machakos-Nairobi-Nakuru highway has a greater impact since it is part of the northern corridor. All goods destined on transit & for export to Ug, Rwanda and Congo use this highway. But at the moment it does need much attention for the time being as compared to during Kanu regime (was recently recarpeted). The No is; Thika Rd needed attention since Nairobi population is moving away from the city centre. Thika Rd has rapidly mushrooming residential estates & massive expansion ie Kasarani, Zimmerman, Kahawa, Githurai etc. Thika Rd is the major highway being fed by roads frm all this estates not forgetting traffic from further on, as Muranga, Meru, Garissa, etc. My two cent opinion is: Machakos-Nairobi-Nakuru highway should have been expanded the same way as Thika Rd since we are heading to a massive traffic jam in that direction.

Statistically, Nairobi Thika apparently (pre highway) has the highest concentration of vehicles in East and Central Africa (can't remember where I read that from).

I agree though that Machakos - Nakuru could have greater impact. However most of it is technically in place. Msa road after Nyayo stadium onwards to Machakos will be a 2+2 soon enough. Traffic reduces also after Athi. The other way, dual carriageway till Limuru is in place. Would be nice to have a longer stretch of 2+2 traffic (reducing accidents).

The real bottleneck is within Nairobi, and I think this will still affect the Nairobi - Thika highway.

Thika Road was dualised more than 25years ago upto Kenol. Machakos turn-off to Arthi is still uncertain. Arthi to City has just been done.

Lastly Southern bypass - Msa Road to Kikuyu should have been given priority over Northern or Eastern Bypasses which are almost complete. The transit trucks would not be clogging Uhuru and Waiyaki Ways.

The technology city at machakos calls for world class highway,..i will try rao next year.
