a controversial standard columnist is breathing fire and brimstone today and shockingly says:

- other than God,africans need to be whipped thoroughly to work and think!!

-we need dictators to prosper!

- africans are generally rude, greedy and icompetent!!!

i have pasted some quotes from the writer but feel the paper went a bit too far by publishing and generalising in their sensational outburst. true, kenyans fought for freedom of speech and expression but aren't we going too far and abusing our new found freedom? such a commentary can only be published in kenya. is this a good thing then?

the writer takes no hostages and barks:

'..Actually,it is while on the road that one experiences the raw, uncivilised nature of the average Kenyan: pushy, temperamental and uncouth...'

'...Africa is a brute fact of utter rudeness, callous incompetence, primitive tribalism and grotesque gluttony. When will Africa get it right? Poverty, violence, greed and sinister politics are emblematic of our society...'

Going by the savage carnage they visited on innocent women and children in the rift valley during PEV, the writer could be writing from from his damn heart. For they lost all claim to civilization. But were it not for content, the piece is well written.

Going by the state of Black Africa, the writer could be true. And yeah,we can blame it on the leaders, but are they not the clouds that has evaporated from the masses hence the same old water?.............When most of the developed world was building itself, democracy was not an ingredient. Look at the fast developing China, developed Hong Kong,South Korea,Japan, hell even the USA....... As i said earlier this year, all we need is a people's dictator.A guy/lady who will rule for the sake of the nation. Things get done with expeditiously without too much yap yap for nothing in the name of democracy. Majority of the voting population is so ill informed,it takes things on face value. We need a people's dictator,a seer if you will. A person who knows the way,and not the masses psychology of taking the smooth road leading to the swamp. Don't ask how we gonna identify that dictator, may be the Chinese have a clue.

to be honest, this is one of the boldest articles i have read in many moons. am still shaken by the sheer audacity of the standard group to publish such an outrageous piece of writing! just close your eyes briefly and imagine if it had been written by a white person! there would be screams of blue murder and the writer could be facing criminal racist charges over incitement! mmmmm...... maybe someone desperately wants to fill the void left by the indefatigable mutahi ngunyi?

The defintive work in this field is capitalist nigger by Dr. Chika Onyeani. He points out whats wrong and gives possible solutions. I was wondering though, whether white guys or Indians would be able to stand one of their own talking about them like that.

That is the biggest small pile of s*** i have read today.
This stupid author qualifies why african need the whip based on 1 motorist??
Our problem is not the whip is we are politically, economically and socially disempowered.
A foreign editor my ass!! This is a shameful article and people advocating for it would have proudly been home gaurds a few years ago.
Why doesn't he say how africans are forgiving, mandela, rwanda etc etc,how africans have a sense of community, how we accept strangers and foreigners.
People will always take advantage of loop hole and try to get off on other people its human greedy nature.
Using a british aesthist and a single motorist to justify this bulls*** is stupid. To all who think Africans need a whip or two where will you fall on the recieving or the giving end!!

I love this part:

'Come to think of it: What made the so-called Michuki Rules in the matatu industry work had more to do with the no-nonsense manner of the former transport Minister, who unlike Ali Mwakwere who is holding the docket now, ensured the rules were adhered to. A former home guard,Michuki, knew that a few lashes to the bare back could force the hand of the African.'

Now tell me that that is not true.

We are myopic. The reason why people dont break laws in the west is because big brother is always watching there is a camera on every light, pedestrian crossing have camera. If they were in kenya they would break the law cause they can get away with it.

Simple question. Are you weilding the whip or recieving the lashes???

Well,u can blow hot or cold but the 2 dictators in Africa running relatively clean countries are no-nonsense guys... Paul Kagame of Rwanda (who had the military police 'capture' all the high-end cars the ministers were driving) & Ian Khama of Botswana (a former military guy who was elected but disciplined)...

People should think carefully before wishing for a dictator. I don't want another moi who will take years to get rid of. We simply need a visionary who can carry the people along with his vision. At the end of the day,we're all human and are all capable of getting drunk with power

@JM

please try to write in english. even if you are typing on a phone (i d hate to think u r using a standard keyboard)...surely i cant see the need to write things like '4rom','retot'd',t b,nt,wads (Help us God!!),th....etc

personally i find such writing grotesque...no matter how hip/with-it/tech-savvy/(what is the new word?) one may want to appear.

for example, there is an english word 'wad' with a totally different meaning!! also it doesnt make any sense why one would need to write something like 4rom. what the hell is that????????!!!!!! forom? whats that??

forgive my outburst....
