mountain biking in Nairobi

Does anyone go mountain biking in Nairobi?

Are there groups that go out? if so when and where

also, is it safe? are there anythings/time/places etc i need to know as an expat moving over in 2 weeks?

@m.r.davies, Karibu Kenya (Swahili for welcome to Kenya!). I prefer biking in Naivasha- approx 1 hour from Nairobi, especially through Hells' Gate National Park. Great experience, breath-taking scenery, fresh country air,coupled with camping. They hire out bikes too at most of the camping sites. Biking in Nairobi depends on where you stay. . .obviously some neighbourhoods are safer, have better roads, less traffic etc.

google though 'uvumbuzi'.. this is group of people who have been biking for a while..

i have not been able to get to them myself..

I know the're some groups around ngong hills,just show up with your bike am sure you'll find them

Best place to hike, bike and rock climb ..............
Great scenery, 1 hour from nairobi, great game ............
Amazing ...............
Other biking events Mount Kenya bike race .....
Trust(Condoms) bike races in several towns ...........
Nairobi Magadi bike races happens bi-anually ............
Check the sarit centre notice board once you get here smaller bike events .......
For a good cause announce on the board ......
There used to be a bike club that met in museum of Kenya ........
Worth checking them out as you visit the museum ...........
Which you should .............
Offices are near the painters and sculpters area just ask once at the museum .............

google Safari Simbas - they should be able to hook you up...the guy in charge is David Kinjah - a leading Kenyan cyclist (MTB and Road) with whom I have had the honour to ride. He schedules regular Sunday/Saturday rides and longer expeditions (Magadi, Naivasha, etc)

Their next biking tour is to Kerio valley o 17th to 19th Sept.
