Today is my third week anniversary of not smoking after doing a pack a day for the last 10 years.

I chewed nicotine gum for the first 4 days to deal with the withdrawal.

I'm breathing much easier, food smells and tastes better etc.

It's not easy not to smoke esp when friends you are with are drinking/smoking...so help me God!!!
Any skerians who have succeded?

Consistency requires you to be as ignorant today as you were a year ago.

I quit in 1998.

It was very difficult, and I went jogging everyday to get breathless.

But it is done.

Now the occassional cigar (without inhaling).

The nicotine gum is 40 bob per tablet,it ain't cheap. I ate 3 per day,in all i spent about 400 bob, they help some.
But it's tough, you can also get hooked on them.

I feel you,had been smoking for 8 years smoking between a pack and half a pack per day. Since July 17,I have been smoke free save for once or twice when I slid (my wife smokes)

Every day I wake up I count the no. of days that Ive been smoke free and thank God for that gift. For the sake of my kids Ive decided to take a day at a time and remain completely smoke free.

Key tips

1. Get everything you need as you go home so that you dont have to walk out in the evening unnecessarily.

2. On Weekdays,sleep early.

3. If you go to a club and have to catch a drink sit in the non smoking area.

4. Tell all your buddies that youve quit,so that they dont bother calling you to go to the smoking zone. Some will ask you to keep them company. DONT GO.

5. Get an extremely minty toothpaste and ensure you brush yr teeth with it every morning. That mint freshness discourages that early morning puff.

6. Keep rewarding yourself after each milestone, say after every 7 days.

All the best, just know that enyone can do it including you.

What a coincidence. I am on my second day bila guffing but i feel like crawling up any wall. Here is my story of how I have battled nicotine addiction. I started off at age 13 when in form one. It was the coolest thing I could ever imagine to do. I smoked non-stop until when I was doing my post graduate and I was 24 years. I got spiritually focused and I managed to stay away for the next 10 years. At 34 and at the height of my career I lost my job and everything I believed in. I sought solace in nicotine. For the next 2 years I smoked away but stopped thereafter for one year and started again. Now I have been hooked non-stop for the past 3 years. I am tired of that monkey clinging to my back and I growing older and I think its time I started taking good care of the aging body. This time I am determined to shake it off. But its gruelling. Wish me luck. I will update regularly.
