The biggest mistake people make when going it alone is the misconception that you can start a business while employed and when it start generating substantial income you quit.

Most successful businesses require tenacity from the owner which employees cant have .The passion from the owner gives the customer the confidence to do business with you.

My father runs several restaurants and mind you he never went to any culinary school in fact he studied mechanical engineering. But the passion with which my father runs his restaurant makes his customers love him first then his food.

In conclusion if you have a passion for something and you believe you are an expert on that field then open the business and plunge head on.
'......to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; 3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.' Colossians 2:2-3

My friends there's ALWAYS an unexploited niche in every kind of business line.Difference is if you see it and meet it-the better you satisfy your chosen niche, the better the return on your investment;and niche marketing does cost more than a dime.

Broadly put, think Galileos,Mercury Lounges, and that other place they brew-as-you-drink.That's niching at its best.

Don't just open the 20th pub-of-the-kind on the same street.

@ Selah - I agree with you. Out here, it takes time to make money, reasonable money that is. In the mean time, your passion, yes passion surprises all in the first 9 months!!

Order lagomorpha, that'd be the rabbit, nearer the horse than a rat-rodentia,not sure.

Fantony, this is not the thread for monkey,er,rodent business. We're trying to help each other out here,And if you say there're rats fatter than cats,be illuminated when you remember that the richest of the richest are ALL self employed, thus cats.

A fat rat is a better meal, and there's always a bigger fish anyways.

I pray you see the light & quit anticipating that measly excuse of a pension they'll toss at you when you retire.

I've been off the internet for a while but i didn't expect to see so many comment. Thank you guys for you sharing and i'm pleased to know this thread is helping more people who want to transition smoothly.

So far i like the idea of going into business while maintaining my current job for sometime. It however depends on what business idea someone has because for some, it's difficult to carry out both biz and job at the same time. Personally, the biz i'm engaging in allows me to keep my job while running it on the side.

I have seen people leave jobs only to fail in the biz they went into but that is no reason to never try. Whatever biz one starts, there are risks attached to it and while you can never be too sure of what risks to look out for, some research will help in identifying them and their solutions. Other challenges will come on the way too and pose serious threats but the ability to solve them will determine ones success or failure. Also, strategies will vary from vary from one enterpriser to the other.

At the end of the day, some people will choose to be employed till retirement and others will choose to go into business. Success and failure are all part of the game and survival is for the fittest.

By the way, if no one ever tries who will create the jobs for the others?

Keep the comments coming.
It's amazing what you can achieve when you get rid of fear.
