Am just wondering how one can have a full online business - the point of sale in online - and charge VAT and issue receipts.

The Damn KRA guys need you to get VAT for them and issue receipts using ETR.

Anyone with experiences on how this can be implemented?

Can't you use a soft ETR like many large corporates do? Ask them about it.

There is the long signature that appears at the bottom of every invoice. This is the way to go and avoid attaching ETR receipts that get misplaced most of the time.

@Wanyo

Simply Contact them (KRA ) and ask them how they handle online Business VAT. Otherwise,as James Mwangi of EQUITY always tells KRA,Do your business and let KRA do the Catch up !..Do your Business and DONT pay the TAXES untill they complain about it..then you will ask them to show you How to Compute it..(Hoping they wont 1st Slap a you with a Penalty of 300% of your Lifetime Turnover. )

I have tried asking KRA the same question on line 4 999 999 and am being taken from one exension to another as everyone is seeking to contact the other.

@ Eddiemundu,i take your advice - let them catch up later.

what i don't know is what penalty they will slap upon discovering.

@wanyo;

To be on the safe side,write to KRA and ask,deliver the letter to Times Tower and have them stamp your copy 'received'.

I assure you; you will get a reply in writing...very quickly. Do not accept any verbal explanation guys can be very 'kigeu-geu' when in a fix....and KRA will never accept defense based on verbal explanations from their own officers!!
