What happened to Mombasa highway expansion?

The last time I went down this highway [about 2 months ago], the contractor re-building the JKIA-Machakos junction [SBI] had abandoned the site.

I don't seem to remember hearing about the stalling of this construction in the news.

Remind me what happened...

Most likely it is an issue of delayed payments, revised project costs, gava running out of cash til June 2010-2011 budget or some other dispute. They have restarted albeit at tortoise pace.

Now I can understand why they do roads in sections, so that they can hold the government at ransom. Like some of the bridges are deliberately incomplete.

All the same this is one road that should have been dualised up to Machakos turn-off.

Roads are done in sections in most parts of the world so that equipment can be moved around...

Talked to a friend who is an engineer there and told me that's what happened.

they even had talked of doing away with all roundabouts in uhuru highway to museum hill what happened the traffic so annoying

I hope the contract wasn't given to either Kirinyaga or Nyoro contstruction. If that is the case then, consider that as money gone down the drain.

Maybe the road has hit a snag with the consessionaires. Do we need these lot? We are already paying fuel tax.
