What is gold farming?

'gold farming means the real-world sale of virtual goods and services produced in online games. For example, many online games have a virtual economy and an in-game currency. Gold farmers can play in-game to make some currency. They then sell that for real money – typically via a web site and using the PayPal payment system – to other players of the game'

In a nutshell, its the playing of MMORPGs like World of Warcraft specifically for points or skills, and selling off those rewards to other players for real money.... Small businesses in China, for example, establish a location with 10 computers or so,and hire people to continuously play these games for points,or for 'gold' in the world of warcraft example. They can then sell off what they've earned to other players.

I expect this to be over the heads of most people, and I'm pretty sure I won't be able to explain it thoroughly in this post,so I invite people to google/wikipedia the topic if they want to learn more.

The reason I bring this up is because of all the hype surrounding BPO following the launching of TEAMS and SEACOM. Now,for the ordinary aspiring entrepreneurs like you and me,establishing a call centre is out of our reach because of the large amounts of capital investment involved. But gold farming requires significanly less, and people are actually making money out of this sort of thing if anybody cares to do some research.

I think this could be just as big as BPO?,but it's not going to be easy.

I am not well versed with gold farming, but i might just add that main challenge for BPO wouldnt be huge costs of initial investment but more so our perception of it.

Most people would expect a big company with with a huge room with 100 computers and fully employed staff, but in reality doing it small scale is also possible.

I saw someone once get jobs from SME's in the USA and he had two people employed on two computers to do this clerical jobs for american companies. Now with fiber his costs for net have just gone lower. The only challenge he has and many others wanting to follow his line have,is,marketing their professionalism .

An after thought about gold farming, what if we trained kids to maximise this opportunity. (I know kids who are really good at video games and spend more than two hours a day playing the games)

You are as Rich as you think you are

Point taken about BPO size and investments....

... and on gold farming, hiring kids to play would be the right way to go. Getting paid to play videogames? That would sound cool.

I'm not sure if I'm flogging a dead horse here, but I thought I should leave this link above.

The above link describes how exactly to get gold in-game. I've put this up because I realise not many SKerians have played World of Warcraft. And,if we eventually get insane speeds like 1-2 MB per second at home, guys may finally get the opportunity to play these types of games. If that happens, then this guide may prove useful for players and gold farmers alike.
