Does the govt just force kplc to reduce prices or it compensates KPLC through subsidies like it does for petrol prices?

Am not sure this has been worked out in detail.
The fuel subsidies will only hold until after the election.

Government run entities are full of issues. Good luck.

I say this and I am crying tears about Kenya Re which despite not being stolen from is suffering from low RoE and dividends.

Let the government buy back Kplc shares from shareholders and dictate on how the company does business, it doesn't make any business sense to investors

It is a lot harder to steal from Kenya-Re without heavy CAPEX. That is the main route of steal. If Kenya-Re suddenly starts to buy shady Real Estate or on grossly inflated values. Run. Also Kenya - RE has been steadily losing market share.

They should stick with leasing their idle optical fibre network. The customer expectations for an ISP, Kenya Power can't match.

Share price collapsing on GoK refusal to raise fuel cost surcharge, despite the rout in geothermal.

KPLC risks going the KQ way. Needing perpetual state bailouts. Sad because were it not a parastatal this would be a massively profitable business. The same can't be said of KQ which is just in a bad business regardless of how it is run.

After Safaricom and EABL, KPLC comes third in the amount it collects from sales annually. Sadly this is all eaten up by IPP costs, transmission costs, admin costs, hefty interest costs...

(I still smile at the fact that on aggregate Kenyans spend more on their beer than they do their power :)

https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/bd/economy/imf-renews-push-for-kenya-power-board-shake-up--4310286

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) wants the State to shake up the Kenya Power board and settle at least Sh26 billion owed to the utility as part of reforms to steady the electricity distributor.

The government last month committed to clear some Sh19.4 billion owed to Kenya Power under the Rural Electrification Scheme and is yet to pay the utility Sh7 billion as compensation for last year’s 15 percent electricity tariff cuts.
what happened to kenya airways is about to happen to KPLC shareholders, conversion of debt to equity and massive dilutionPray Pray

IMF via IFC invests in IPPs or gives loans to IPPs and will give loan to GoK to ensure KPLC is viable and able to pay the IPPs who make money for IMF via IFC...kizungu-mkuti kweli

This one will only survive because it is a very important utility & monopoly company. However, shareholders are in trouble.
