Quote:Flourishing Kenyan Middle Class Attracts Artcaffé Group in KitengelaArtcaffé Group has opened its 29th outlet, Artcaffé Coffee & Bakery in Kitengela
attributing it to the rising disposable incomes from a flourishing middle class.
Betty Musyoki, Head of Real Estate at Artcaffé Group, said, “Our emphasis is to be in strategic locations that are a hub of economic and social activity.
As one of the fastest expanding towns, Kitengela represents a growing economy and flourishing middle class; we look forward to being a part of this community as well as positively impacting local growth.”
ArtCaffe Kitengela is a 130-seater bar and restaurant and
it is the first branch that has been opened outside of Nairobi for the group. The company recently opened two restaurants, Artcaffe and Urban Burger at the Capital Centre.
Artcaffe si wajinga. They know where the growth nodes are and Kitengela was their first pick

Beat it Mugundaman. Kitengela is and will always be a dusty suburb for middle class Nairobians. Those joints are opening up everywhere and they are targeting middle class customers. KFC has a new restaurant in Kamakis. Pizza Inn/Chicken Inn have outlets at Kamakis/Bypass areas. Even Artcaffe is at Kamakis/Bypass, a typical middle class area. Those private equity groups have realized that they can make more money by targeting the middle class instead of the elite because the middle class have the numbers. Before you celebrate, you need to understand how these private equity firms work. If you did, you wouldn't be here using Artcaffe as an indicator of elite status.
I am sorry to burst your bubble and illusions of grandeur. Kitengela is a dusty middle class suburb and will remain so. Every middle class neighborhood has a mall and those restaurants these days. You can't use them to make your case.
I can get a good townhouse in Kitengela for just 10 million. That is the only information you need to determine that Kitengela is a middle class neighborhood, not the next Runda.
You really need to start travelling outside DC so that you can know that it isn't really that special.
The title of your article is "flourishing middle class"...not "flourishing elite"
