Ethiopian government clears way for Safaricom to introduce Mpesa

Ethiopia is such a mess right now I am not even sure this is good news. Dead Tigrayans are showing up in Sudan rivers and TPLF is gearing up ready for war. Communication systems in the country have been blocked and there's very little information coming out of that country.

And now the Ethiopian government asks civilians to join the army as fighting escalates. Things are thick.

Ethiopia is about to explode.
The largest ethnic group rebels Oromo liberation defence forces and Tigray people liberation forces have teamed up on a war against the government.

It just keeps getting worse

I don't get it why each of Ethiopia's regions had/has it's own army. Like if each Kenyan region (tribe) had it's own guns in 2007 we wouldn't have survived as a nation.

If the civil war gets even bigger, the forex shortage and inflation in the country will be immense. Case example South Sudan.

Ethiopia practices ethnic federalism courtesy of Meles Zenawi. Each unit of the federal government is defined and segregated by ethnicity. South Sudan also practices something similar.

Central Bank of Ethiopia has asked all commercial banks to temporarily suspend providing loans backed by collateral.

Lenders ordered to also freeze disbursement of approved loans.

USG is also delaying the release of USD 500 million to Safcom because of that whole mess. Things are thick and it keeps getting worse.

If only that same enthusiasm by the youth could be carried across into the NSE we would have a more vibrant capital market

There is no inside information, everything is in the public domain. After Safaricom entered the Ethiopian market, civil strife happened.
