KenGen earned Sh57 million from the sale of carbon credits in the year to June 2017. (link)

Above figure is measly and i am sure less than salaries of people KenGen employs to go all over the world staying in expensive hotels only to sell KES 57M worth? And so much press releases over nothing. I never see other power producers (IPPs) all over the press every day like KenGen does. e.g Ormat &LTWP makes more money than KenGen per kwh sold to KPLC quietly.

KenGen has thermal plants in Kipevu and Muhoroni why can't they offset their carbon with their geothermal?

All those press releases are not corresponding to the share price performance.
Muhoroni contract is coming to an end this year and with the commissioning and operation of the KETRACO 220KV Lessos-Kisumu line highly unlikely it will be renewed.
Kipevu I contract is coming to an end in 2023

They'll probably release the annual ritual document: Delayed publication of results and ask for more time, probably up to 15th November.

However, this is Jubilee and even December is possible with the "due to the President's directive on review of several aspects of the energy sector"
My 2 cents

November is unlikely. Too optimistic.

Help me understand this finance stuff:

Profit before tax = ksh.14.76bn
Profit after tax = Ksh. 1.118bn

Reason given is that corporate tax changed from 25% to 30%. Isn't that like 90% tax rate? Must be the reason they are releasing the results on a weekend night!

@0.30/share the amount dividend paid to issued shares ~1.98bn but profit after tax is Ksh 1.118bn.

watu wa accounts/finance please explain the mazematics? Does it mean Kengen will borrow to pay dividends? Why deferred tax? - like were they not paying tax before? Is GoK making more money from KenGen in tax as opposed to being a shareholder?

Look at the status of cash rather than profit. As at June 2021, they had 13.8B in cash. They can pay the dividend, they have the cash. A company can be very profitable but lack cash and on the flip side can have made a loss but have cash.
