More than 50 people have been killed in three separate bomb blasts in the Ugandan capital – Kampala as the residents watched the 2010 World Cup final on giant screens.
Police confirmed that 13 people, more than half of them foreigners were killed at Ethiopian Village Restaurant in Kabalagala, a Kampala suburb, while Daily Monitor reporters counted about 40 bodies at Kyaddondo rugby grounds where a huge crowd was watching the Spain Vs Netherlands Word Cup final.
Another blast was reported to have gone off in Ntinda, another Kampala surburb, as more than 100 were reported admitted in hospitals and clinics in the capital including the national referral hospital - Mulago.

Some guy calling himself/herself an (Online) news/photo editor actually saw it fit to allow the publication of full size in-situ images of deceased blast victims??? I pray this did not make it to the print version

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni toured the blast sites Monday and said that the terrorists behind the bombings should fight soldiers, not "people who are just enjoying themselves." "We shall go for them wherever they are coming from," Museveni said. "We will look for them and get them as we always do." Ugandan army spokesman Felix Kulayigye said it was too early to speculate about any military response to the attacks. It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt...

And over the weekend Kenya Police killed a man with over 300 explosives detonators in Rongai...be afraid. Where were they headed? Where are the explosives that they were meant for? Can other replcament detonators be found to replace these by the criminals? Are we in the midst of an arms trafficking corridor or is there styh more sinister afoot?
What would have happened had they not been intercepted? Are they arms smugglers or something more sinister? Are there similar caches elsewhere in the country?
There was a time Police intercepted a Garissa bus carrying detonators...what is this obsession with explosives - whether IEDs-or military ordnance?
Explosives are weapons of mass casualties (unlike small arms)- and they are proliferating highly. Rem Uhuru park last month? And gangs who on several occasions have thrown grenades at cops on waiyaki way,etc sometime back? And the Narok arms finds? Too frequent.And its mostly explosives.
We used to worry about proliferation of small arms but truth is
explosives have now enteted the security equation.
A clear & present danger to the country.
I hope our security agencies are ready, I fear am wrong.

I offer my prayers and comfort to the bereaved in UG. I find comfort in the fact that those bearded bedeviled boneheads of Al Shabaab will get their just rewards when the horned red dude with a pitch fork welcomes them to their permanent abode downstairs. NEW VISION -KAMPALA
HARDLY 24 hours after three bombs killed more than 70 people in Kampala city, the Police have detonated another bomb in a Kampala city suburb.
The Police Anti-Terrorism Unit (PATU) detonated the bomb at Makindye House, a popular hang-out in Makindye division, in the afternoon. The Police rushed to the scene after being alerted about a suspicious knapsack that had been left on a table in the bar.
“We called in the PATU and they confirmed that it was a bomb and detonated it after cordoning off the place,” the Katwe Police Station criminal investigation boss, Vincent Okurut, said yesterday.
The explosive, which security operatives described as home-made, was detonated at 4:00pm. There were no injuries, the Police said.
By press time, the scene remained cordoned off, with operatives from the Joint Anti-Terrorism Unit and PATU scouring the place for clues.
Okurut appealed to the public to be vigilant. “You should take interest in your neighbours and report any suspicious persons or conduct or a person carrying suspicious objects. This way, we can reduce these incidents,” he advised.

@Wa_ithaka,  you cannot be implying like youcantstopthem, is wondering that the bombing are linked to Kadhi courts. Whatever the context this is off the mark na mbali sana. These Al-Shabaab cowards will only look to inflict maximum casualty at their perceived enemy.

this can only inflict more damage on the Somalis in the diaspora as a xenophobic wave against folks of Somali origin could very well start rolling across E.A. Already there are many communities in urban areas who resent the influx of Somali Somalis.
Wachunge sana, another bomb and pips start lumping all somalis together with the few evil ones.

The man was found with a Kenyan identity card indicating he was Alfred Kibet Kosgei, 45, from Endebess in the Rift Valley. The arrest came a few days after the Kenya government handed over another Ugandan, Ali Issa Ssenkumba, a suspect in the bombings. Police suspect he is ethnic Iteso and Sabaot from Endebess near the Kenyan border with Uganda. He was found with a digital camera, which contained pictures of several classified government installations in Nairobi and two popular social places in Nairobi.He was also found with a photocopy of an identification card of a place in Uganda. Kenyan security forces have been put on high alert since the bombings in Uganda. More soldiers and police officers have been deployed along the border points to avert attacks in Kenya. Police commissioner Mathew Iteere said the border points in Northern Kenya had been sealed off to deal with any possible attacks. He said Kibet has been transferred to Nairobi for further interrogation by the anti-terrorism police.

poleni UG. Kenya should keep off Somalia so that the violence doesn't spill over. Kadhi courts should allowed, after all Islam preceded western Christianity in Kenya by 1000 years. Plus I've lived in a moslem majority country, I loved it. Little crime, no garbage on tv, no aids, child rapists, drugs, best place to raise a family. Uganda should also walk away from Somalia, why get hurt in someone else's fight?
