Let us not be too hard on Magufuli, he may turn out to be the most prescient among our leaders.

Even without good testing, it seems clear that COVID-19 is evolving differently in Africa than in the West. For one the morbidity rate is quite low. Having a youthful population is finally paying dividends for us (although other factors like weather could be at play also).

Testing, therefore should not be our priority. Our priority should be preventing sickness. This means placing most of our resources into protecting health workers and in testing, treating and isolating those older than 60 (they are not very many, thank God) and anyone suffering from underlying conditions like HIV, Diabetes etc.

One day soon, we shall seek to encourage infection among the healthy, as one path to achieving herd immunity. We might as well start now.

Maghufuli is hiding at his home in Chato (si mjinga). Tzedians are doing their part with hygiene, masks and distancing.

That said, East Africa might be forming a nice regional experimental unit. TZ with minimal action, Kenya with it's half-assed donor driven actions based on finger wagging/scolding of citizens and Rwanda/Uganda excelling in comprehensive control.

It's everwhere in YouTube. Magufuli public meetings today. Why should he hide?
Boris caught covid then healed sembuse yeye?

Hapana!he doesn't mean he is in a hole hiding but rather he is out of the cities where infection is likely.

He can have gatherings at 10Meters social distance and address the nation.

Nobody wants this infection even with the knowledge that one can heal.

Yes,its beginning to get slippery when we mention such huge figures in Kibera and likoni.

However we are still hopeful having seemingly managed Kawangware and Eastleigh whose population densities are similar.

I like your optimism. But your Faith is in the wrong place. How did they manage the situation in kawangware and isilii?
They just stopped testing so there are no results to record.
Now you say it's in kibra. Will they shut down kibra?
Many kibra residents work in those so-called upmarket places like langata Karen and lavington where the sonkos travel all over the world wakiokota all kind of trash and bringing it back here. Imagine the wamama wa kufua nguo? Can I be wrong when i say this thing has been here since 1st of January?

Wachaneni n.a. magufuli. He is not a city person. Even before covid he was always seen huko mikoani inspecting projects and firing people. I ask you to watch older videos and tell me how close you could come to talk to him.

Kawangware was 1 family and the relations - so aggressive contact tracing seems to have snuffed it at its roots. I don't really know what is going on in Eastleigh. I hope the contact tracing gets quite aggressive in Likoni and Kibich. it can get out of hand really fast.

you are asking people to not do anything and eventually see if we are like Brazil or Not!
if Not - we are OK... If we are like Brazil - then what?

This 1st of January thing does not stand scrutiny! We have been all over it.

As things stand the total number of REPORTED deaths in Africa is now 3,020. that's about 1% of what had been modeled.
It hit me that the 300,000 deaths being predicted for Africa may not be a big number as people think it will be if you don't factor in time. If 50 countries get an average of 6,000 total deaths (That's the total number of deaths in a country like Canada has up to now on Covid) we are there!
All I can see around is people who are tired and bored saying let it rip through our masses and see what happens.
