So how long will this last? Upto the next elections?

Coz if we know the county govt has no functions left, there will be no need for county seat elections.

If there will be elections, the next county government could want their functions & budget back

I think Parliament is yet to pass an act that would guide transfer of function and gava is fully aware if this lacuna and took advantage of it.

The county still exists and will still be in charge of other function like garbage correction na kukimbiza hawkers

Okiya Omtatah and Mwalimu Mutemi wa Kiama file petition to block transfer of Nairobi County functions.

Activists Okiya Omtatah & Mwalimu Mutemi wa Kiama have moved to court seeking orders blocking the transfer of functions of the Nairobi County Government to the National Government.

In the petition filed on Wednesday, they argue that the public, the Cabinet, County Executive Committee, County Assembly, and the Senate were not involved in the decision as required by law.

They further argue: “There is no Cabinet paper on the transfer. There is no resolution by Parliament. There is no County Executive Committee paper on the transfer.

There is no County Executive Resolution on the impugned transfer of functions which was approved by the County Assembly and then forwarded to the Senate for concurrence.”

Sonk defends the transfer saying they benchmarked with major cities like washington DC, Abuja and also consulted widely before reaching the decision.

Sonko said that in order to address the unique needs of Nairobi, his government set out a fact finding mission.

Sonko says that they benchmarked and took lessons from other jurisdictions across the world including Washington DC in the US and Abuja in Nigeria.

"We established that cities and metropolis, the size of Nairobi, are best served jointly by devolved units and Central Governments," he said.

"I initiated discussions with the National Government with a view of finding a sustainable approach to service delivery that leverages both on the County and National resources and competencies."He said.

Sonko said the agreement signed will not only help enhance service delivery in the city but will also reposition Nairobi as the economic hub of the region.

"...my government will ensure that Nairobi regains its famed status as the “Green City in the Sun” among other targets that we have set for ourselves," he said.

So is Sonko's impeachment off the table or what's going on here?

Apparently with an imminent impeachment and a looming by elections the handshake would have been to test and probably the hustlers would have walked away with bragging rights.
The situation had to be contained.
