Net working capital collapsed by 74% to Sh901m from Sh3.4bn in FY18, while non-current assets surged 17% to Sh10.7bn.

Book value stands at Sh97.15 & ROaE for FY19 was 41%

Operating profit margin collapsed mainly on regulatory costs due to introduction of new Solatium levy.

Company has introduced new product of modern oral nicotine pouches without tobacco & a lot of internal cash was invested in the new factory.

The decrease in working capital can be partly attributed to prudent cash management, as reflected by the decrease in finance costs.

Final dividend of ksh.30 per share bringing total dividend per share at 33.50 compared to 35 the previous year

Good performance, though the investment is under siege. The new factory will expand production in next few years.

Tax regime onslaught continues, what will they introduce next Sad

Dividend has been reducing YoY for the last 3 years.d'oh! d'oh! d'oh!

The "shortfall" in dividends is going towards a good cause. Investment.

The LYFT factory should boost sales in future years but there will be need to hold back funds for a few years to build capacity. If LYFT is successful then the potential for export is huge.

solatium compensation contribution levy of two percent on manufactured tobacco products.

Solatium levy is used by government to fund tobacco control research and cessation and rehabilitation programmes.

Knowing GoK, the 2% is high and will also amount to nothing. Just hurting businesses and investment environment.

BAT looks very much a favourite of Gok.Excise duty and value added tax of kshs 15,788,000 is a reprieve for a debt ridden treasury.

The LYFT factory looks like a good investment ......

https://www.businessdail...63238-voclhz/index.html

British American Tobacco (BAT) Kenya

will build a Sh2.5 billion factory in Nairobi to produce for the African market oral nicotine pouches that are viewed as an alternative to cigarettes.

Managing Director Beverley Spencer-Obatoyinbo said Thursday that the product, called Lyft, is gaining popularity since being introduced late last year and the factory will make Kenya an export hub for Africa.

“Given the high incidence of oral stimulant use among smokers, we believe that this new product category will provide a viable alternative to smoking,” said Ms Spencer-Obatoyinbo.

“We are looking to invest Sh2.5 billion in building a first-of-its-kind factory in Africa for the manufacturing of our oral nicotine pouch.”

This is expected to diversify BAT’s revenues away from the traditional tobacco cigarettes that have come under intense pressure from government through increased taxes and levies.

The dividend could take a slight hit - lower dividend payout ratio - for the next 2 years but then the profits/cash from LYFT will also kick in. Good management.
