I actually think Iran (the state) may be the least of their worries - that action pissed off many muslims and they are the problem. The state can be controlled by a series of stick/carrot moves. For Iran threatening to close the straights of Hormuz will be irresistible. China will likely refuse to buy beans from the Trump supporting heartland.
