Kenya is facing more problems than the media or government itself is willing to admit. This is shown clearly when we look at the National defence policy 2017 where our core ideas have been expressed. When we compare and contrast the defensive position, and appeal for military diplomacy therein, we notice that such a strategic outlook can't win for example, the war against al Shabaab.
Worse still, I have come up with a 'sovereignty test'; and any state that doesn't have capacity to develop its own military with its own wealth, then that state can't be sovereign.
There are many other deep issues surrounding our country, and I have tried to think out how we can create a better country for ourselves, and I have seen that we need top-down and bottom-up changes.
For starters, all of us need to cultivate attitudes of patriotism and unanimity within diversity. This requires a well crafted philosophy and supportive culture, aspects that would be best supplied from a top-down direction.
We need to have good leaders, and the ones we have, are strangely, good enough. We don't have a leadership crisis, instead, we have a paradigm crisis. We don't need to take to the streets to get any significant changes. What we need are well structured political and educational conversations at the grassroots level to the highest levels, so that we can keep our country and our respective freedom, alive.
