Hi
I am looking for like minded Kenyans who are pennywise, and want to save cash while sending chums from England to their loved ones in Kenya. Here's the thing. I would like to have pounds in my UK bank account because I shop using it quite often online. I am therefore proposing you contact me if you want to send Kshs to your peeps in Kenya, and I will send them (by Mpesa or deposit into an account, or however we agree)the Kshs equivalent at the day's prevailing rate (from NSE or CBK) without any charges or commission, just the prevailing rate which is what we both agree on at the time of transacting. And you transfer to my account the Pound sterling equivalent. That way, we both benefit because I also dont have to buy the sterling at rates that include commissions etc from banks or bureaus. I save, you save. Any small amount is fine by me, usijali,Haba na haba.

With Trust from both parties it works well.

Playing devil's advocate:
Do you put the money first or does the other party do so?
How will you trust that if you put money into my account Kenya, i will put money into your accountin UK? ..or vice versa.

I have been doing this for a while (over 4 years now) where someone in Nairobi puts money into my account and I put money into there's in London. Usually at the exchange rate of the day. No other costs... But it's all down to trust.

I tried it previously with a rela of mine but eventually.... the plan backfired. You can guess why.

Haha....I guess its true, money can make even the closest of relas enemies! But you're right...its down to trust, and that can only be built. As this is something new for me, ad probably split the sums you (or whoever) will send to me, and me to your (or whoever's) relas, say ten quid a day for ten days if ur planning to send a hundred quid.Could even be five quid. And coz i know five quid is less than a day's return on the tube, it wouldnt be too risky for you (or whoever) to put 5 quid in my account, and then we move from there. What do you say?

@lisaox... If you do not find anyone you can trust, then we can talk.

Only problem is that it will depend on how much and how often you want to do this.... Reason is I may not have enough money going to Kenya to furnish both you and the person i currently deal with.

...but I am willing to give it a go...
after all it may lead other business transactions.

@Lisaox:Trust is the keyword and all you need is networking, start with friends who still leave in Uk and then they can pass the word around.

Just like JKwatha,i have been doing it for less than a year and so far so good.I started with one guy who usually sends on weekly basis and now i have got a handfull of clients. My best clients are those people with construction projects as they have to send money more often.
I do charge them £5 per transaction regardless of the amount and the reason why they like my service is because its efficient and more cost effective than the UK-Mpesa and the likes. They have to transffer cash into my account first.

@Morey, thanks for the advice.
@Mwatha, its a first for me as i said. You def dont need to worry about cash being enough for me and your current parter in Kenya, whatever little you want to send through me will do me good as I've got something am trying to buy in the pipeline. So, does that sound like you want to send 5 quid today perhaps....?

@Morey,oh, thats a good idea, to charge a nominal fee i mean. I'd probably do it with time if this were to pick up. I have a friend in London, I told her about my plan but she's currently not able to send, though she told her buddy, who am still waiting for. Other than them, am hoping i can get a few xchanges from this forum

yep! £5 it is (or may be abit more) ....today perhaps.... tomorrow..?

Here's the deal. I will not be sending anyone chums, rather I would want to boost my Kenyan account.

So, if you have an account here, I will transfer the equivalent to your account.

& to make it easier, the only confirmation I require would be an email as I can check online. Are you able to check your UK account online?

May be we should take this discussion to email.
