For me what should concern us is if what he is saying is true - that power brokers and wielders are frustrating and variously trying to get at him. Debating if he should have said these things in a press conference or written a letter instead is to overly concern ourselves with form at the expence of substance. For all I care, Maranga may be naive in certain aspects, but the powers that be ought to respect the office of CJ and if there is good grounds to remove him, do so as per law. This infighting is inimical to administration of justice - which in turn is bad for the common man and the economy in general. Appearing to rein in on the judiciary is to appear to be leaning towards autocracy. Uhuru should straighten things out. He has a legacy to protect. Isuni yilu yi maa me muyo - ni Mbisuu

There were new court rooms that were to be built through a World Bank funded project. The project has been on for several years and there is no sign that it will be finished as most monies have been paid with little to show for it. I hear the tendering process was a sham with the sponsor having to intervene.
The digitization program has never started despite funding from World Bank and this being one of the CJ's promise at the time of taking up his job. Tendering fr this project is an annual ritual.
Can someone highlight the achievements of Maraga. I am curious to know his effective side.

Is he entitled to what he is asking for as CJ? I know certain cars or access to the govt VIP lounge sound very vain for some of us who operate used mtumba cars and have never been to JKIA but thats besides the point. I don't know why he is asking for a specific vehicle, but an expectation of certain asks (if one believes his office deserves them) are not pegged on performance, but to the office. His office should be given its dues, and the judiciary arms of government should likewise be given their dues, its where we go for justice when one invades our tu'plots. If he is alleging that he is co-equal to the Executive, he is mistaken. He is not even in line to succeed in the event of the top seat being vacated. He has positioned himself as a legal purist and servant of the public, similar to CBK Governor's position. This clamouring for the trappings of power are very wanting, particularly the clamour for a specific Masides 500. Why the need to be acknowledged at events, etc. Respect is in the halls of the Judiciary, where he is "king" and MUST be referred to as Your Honour, even by the President were he to be in his domain. Huko nje is political land. You can't be a purist of an endeavour, then commence fighting a political fight. You will lose BOTH battles. Most importantly, things like vehicle categorization are purely executive decisions. The executive can even reduce all CC ratings to 1600 CC and no-one can stop them. Even this whole diatribe about submitting a budget for the Judiciary directly to Parliament is a joke. It will just sit there festering and be left out of allocations for that financial year. He applied his version of judgment, which cannot be challenged in deciding to nullify. Judgment is a combination of reading the law, listening to supplicants' arguments and then making a decision after weighing a range of matters. He publicly and proudly stated that he was ready to deal with ALL consequences. If this is indeed a consequence, it is VERY miniscule (rising to no more than a set of mild irritations) and in no way diminishes his office.

The comment about VIP (mis)treatment and car models..... He will be my hero if he persuades judges to use more economical cars like say VW and also does not insist on sitting at high table with the corrupt at national functions, but sits with RAIA out there.

Maraga and the judiciary need to hire a professional PR firm or get a PR consultant. We all know that what he was ranting about was true but how he put it just became a joke. You need to get someone to translate what you are saying into people speak otherwise it becomes a joke. Now imagine after his presser, the government did not even flinch because they just laughed it off and let Kenyans tear his statement apart. BBI will solve it :)

Appearing to rein in on the judiciary is to appear to be leaning towards autocracy. Uhuru should straighten things out. He has a legacy to protect. The executive should respect the CJ and facilitate whatever his office requires for smooth operations. It is a big shame that a whole Chief Justice of the republic of Kenya cannot access a mere VIP lounge to host his CJ guests. Surely, the office of the CJ deserves some privileges otherwise the petty PS can award those privileges to his impoverished relatives in rural Mwea tabere irrigation scheme.(I speak in code). The overly petty PS is well known and should be ashamed of himself. He should stop picking on modest and humble Maraga all the time. Atafute rika yake ama namna gani? As for access to Mercedes benz S500, the CJ should not vex much. Papa Francis of Asisi rode on a 800CC Honda Fit when he visited Kenya and this did not take away the fact that he is the Pope. The only way CJ Maraga can redeem himself is by jailing the corrupt. Maraga and his bandwagon of wakoras should expedite corruption cases and start sending these petty and corrupt CS's and PS's to the gallows chap chap.Otherwise, everything else he says ni kelele tu. Dumb money becomes dumb only when it listens to smart money

Maraga decided to walk back on his touch stance - but made a mess of it by overdoing himself! If for nothing else it is in poor optics for separation of powers & judiciary independence . This past Thursday he chose to eat his words, capitulate and kowtow to the powers that be. We were treated to a sight akin to CJ virtually lying prostate before the throne! Where are his PR people! He has no authority and capacity to impeach anybody. He has taken the judiciary back to the 90s, bure kabisa. In the business world, everyone is paid in two coins - cash and experience. Law Society of Kenya The AG and Solicitor Gen to appear before LSK in 7 days to state why they are mis-advising the President Failure to which they will be disbarred. After which, once disbarred the President will be having laymen as AG and Solicitor Gen advising him. The next step is to petition the Senate and NA to Impeach the President. Bookmarked to see if LSK has the balls to disbar the AG and Solicitor General of the Republic of Kenya. During Moi such office holders did worse but it never reached such levels. Yet the office holders then were firebrands in reforms and justice. Kwanza AG and SG are their seniors 7 days is next week Webe ni ure ure!!!!
