@Sparkly - stale news, @maka broke the news. What else made her to be kicked out? Is it the CEO and the board chair remuneration released to the parliamentary committee? They were humiliated by the MPs. MJ ended up refunding everything.

Ngunze had this vision. He was hounded out.. The unions at KQ have repeatedly caused management to freeze their thinking capacities. KQ as an airline should not be loss making

HF 428,000 ABP 3.49; KQ 414,100 ABP 7.92; MTN 15,750 ABP 6.45

Sale and leaseback. I think this is a good way to go.

Someone educate me on sale and lease back concept.

What percentage is the leasing cost to sales price?

Ideally the leasing cost per anuum should not be above 30% of the sales price.
When they sell, they will get a lump sum money which they can then use for something else like paying down debt.
Leasing is like renting which means KQ is saved from incurring operational and maintenance costs with the hope that the revenue they get is able to cater for the leasing costs.
NB:Not all the aircrafts being sold will they lease back.

Think of it like when corporates sell buildings then lease back e.g EABL with its HQ,Standard Chartered bank when they sold the former Head Office along Moi Avenue,Uchumi and Aga Khan walk building etc.

I am very sure all the Dreamliners will be leased back.

The proceeds might go towards settling the outstanding loans used to acquire these planes.

Lease costs will be covered by KQ internal revenue and not the proceeds from the sale.

If the sale is successful, KQ loan book will reduce dramatically which translates to lower finance costs in the long run. There might be one off penalties to be incurred to terminate the loan contracts but this is minimal and does not outweigh the cost/burden being borne by KQ right now.

No vision here at all. Option like this is normally taken as the last resort. If KQ is struggling to repay the loans now using internally generated revenues what about lease back costs which have more stringent terms.

The CFO must have differed with the CEO and his advisers on this issue and hence partly contributed to her suspension. The calculations might have shown that sale and lease back costs are nearly the same as the current loan repayments for these aircrafts. Moreover, the loans are guaranteed by GOK and repayments sometimes are delayed and waivers obtained.
