The problem of revisionism is not unique to Ugandans. Even here in Kenya during Kefake's time enough people declared Kefake the worst President ever. Now they say Kefake was great, Uhuru is the worst. Bin Adam...

Then there's the tribal angle. Some tribes like the Basoga made up a good chunk of Amin's beneficiaries especially when Asians were expelled. I met one such mzee who idolized Amin. He kept saying the dictator made Ugandans 'believe in themselves and learn how to do business'- of course at the expense of Indians!

Idi Amin was an evil man. Period. He was barbaric. He butchered many people when he was president, not during war.

Idi Amin served in the British Army against the Mau Mau where he rose through the ranks for his "good" work.... in fact in 1959 at the end of the emergency period he was promoted to the highest rank that an African could rise to, he was made an Afande. The guy was an excellent soldier, he always did what he was told.

Please tell us what has been written about Amin that is not true.

There are numerous first hand reports of people being picked up by Amin's goons and never being seen again. Some people were picked up at home and never seen by their family again.

Prominent leaders like Luwum and Oryema died mysterious deaths after being arrested by amin's goons.

Even ordinary people met similar fates.

His torture chambers are now a tourist attraction complete with blood stains on the walls. There are pictures of mass graves and rows upon rows of skeletons.
