I have a medium sized shop in Eastlands which is managed by my wife. I sell dry foods (cereals) and any other commodity that u can expect to buy from a shop in an estate. My shop used to be very famous in say 2000-2007 and had a good sale but there has been alot of competition and more than 5 shops have opened just next to mine. The population in the area to me seems good though its a place with low income earners. Am not ok with the amount of sale that am making.

Please help me on the tactics that I can use to have a bigger market share.

LOL... wacha 'price control' nonsense... bring in competition!

More competition = Lower prices...

I read about this same situation in an article about a week ago. This guy started a shop js like u and it was going well, till suddenly 4 other shops mushroomed out of nowhere and quite close to his shop. His solution? He became their supplier, selling them stock at wholesale prices. I admired that story cos he saw the problem and found a very clever solution. U can do the same, js do ur homework. Hope this helps. :)

Think about customer service; How can you beat the competition with better service? I'm not just talking about smiling and polite attendants [even though this is important], but have you seen how butcheries offer to cut your meat into cubes [ready for cooking]?

Can you improve the buying process: make it faster and more convenient?

Can you package your goods in better, more convenient, more attractive packages [remember what NSC did to sugar?]

And when you do all these, don't lose sight of the classic 4Ps:
Product
Placement
Promotion
Price

Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.
