Says a lot about the age of Wazuans. Quite a number were born in the age of Sir Alex/Wenger and have no idea of local radio commentary.

RIP Moamed Juma Njuguna. His his commentaries during 1987 All African games, Gor Mahia continental excellent run same year and overall East and Central soccer games (club/country) over the years when KBC Radio was the only means of 'watching' local and regional soccer. The voice still lingers on.

I don't think his soccer commentary was comparable to that of the likes of Leonard Mambo Mbotela, Billy Omalla and Ali Salim Manga.

He was my favourite commentator. He really brought football to life. And he put a lot of comedy into it.

My most memorable football commentary was East & Central Senior challenge 1982 final between Kenya and Uganda in Nakivubo. I was a small boy and we were glued to the radio with a group of villagers. Leonard Mambo went mental in that game! Abbas anaokoa! Seketawa hatari...Bob ogolla anaondoa...

I vividly recall that commentary. I remember Mambo quipping "ABBAS NI NANI KWA PENALTY?" and as fate would have it Abbas went on to save that penalty. Talk of good omen!

Even when Kenya threatened to walk out of the pitch to protest against "biased" refereeing decisions, Mambo made it look quite cool as Paul Ngei walked onto the pitch to persuade the boys to continue with play.
