@rollout, if you do not understand how technologies boost each other, stay aside. The future technologies need platform that enables them. For AI, self-driven cars etc etc you a network that supports that.

ARM suspends its workings with Huawei. This is now going to hurt their Kirin processers. This seems like a cordinated take down of Huawei. Last year Intelligence agencies 5 Eyes (US,UK,NZ, Australia & Canada) sanctioned this process. Huawei for sure will bleed.

Its time for political grandmaster Xi to flex his muscles too. Why should he let his most thriving company die. Let him also make others bleed. Read an article that chinese airlines are asking for some crazy payments from Boeing for the grounded Max

If he does that the impact will be in the short term. However, in 5G Huawei is far much ahead of the next companies (Nokia and Ericsson). This process is meant to either, slow them down or force them to share their knowledge with their Western competitors, if you consider 5G will be crucial for IoT and Huawei has more patents on 5G than Ericsson and Nokia combined.

Huawei spends $11b annually in R&D. Half their staff work in R&D. So I'm sure they already have something up their sleeves. Might take time to roll out an alternative OS to Android. Also remembering that Android also dethroned the Nokia OS, back then not so long ago Nokia was king. I think phone makers will have to have to develop and operate on their own systems like Apple and have Android and any other OS as Apps that one can switch to in their convenience. Otherwise, today it will be Huawei and tomorrow Samsung.

BBI will solve it

It will be a tall order. Samsung which is bigger than Huawei tried with Tizen and failed, Amazon again bigger than Huawei has one but nobody cares much about it. The challenge is usually to get developers to make the Apps for the said OS. Ask anyone if they will buy a phone without GSuite services plus, some other apps like navigation apps used in taxi hailing apps rely on Google services. Developing the OS to be even half of what Google services are is going to be a challenge.

When you say Amazon is bigger that Huawei, are you comparing apples to apples?

If you are a Samsung user who updates their phones every so often...you must have received a notification asking you to log into your Samsung. For a long time Samsung has offered apps that are replica to GSuite and developers have been wondering why the duplication...i guess the US - Huawei issue has now answered that.

Developers are now talking about getting on a third OS apart from Android and IOS. Just as Blackberry died these two may soon follow suit.

If China banns Apple, Apple would lose 30% of their business.

China should shut Apple manufacturing factories which are all located in china and cripple apple 100%.

Shutting down Apple Manufacturing facilities will not happen because it will be the beginning of the end of China communist party. The ripple effect will lead to collapse of the GOV and the ruling elites know that.

1. There will be immediate mass unemployment associated with Apple factories closure

2. It will signal other foreign manufactures that its time to open shops in other East Asia countries leading to a ripple and graduate shift of production by other companies to other countries creating a compounding long term increase unemployment.

3. China need technology and they are learning by having apple and other companies in their country.

With high unemployment the economy will slow down and the party will loose support from the masses

My thoughts exactly. China is in no position to bully any western country. All its manufacturing and all its market is in the west. Now that the west has seen that China is trying to show that its growing some balls. Manufacturing wil soon be moving to other Asian countries like Vietnam Thailand and Indonesia . Taiwan is also another destination.

This is a strange kind of brainwashing. It is the disease of little knowledge, which is more dangerous than no knowledge at all....

"All its manufacturing is in the west"......Where did you get that from? China manufactures most of American's household items, in China. In my estimation, 70% of the stuff inside Walmart is from China. There would be no Walmart and other large retailers, without China.

You also insinuate that nowadays large manufacturers just move, as if shifting from one village market to another, eh??? Where else will you find such a large concentration of highly skilled people if not Chinese cities? Where else will you get such cheap, reliable power, friendly investment environment, subsidiary parts, seamless transportation, tooling and equipment, technological advancement etc if not China? I think 70% of I-phone parts are made in china.....the batteries, the frame etc. Very few parts are imported, like the camera, chips etc. You want themm to move to Vietnam, then what? Start importing tools and parts from China? What kind of logic is that?

Did you also insinuate that the Chinese are peasants? Have you been there? Last I checked, their UPPER middle class are more than the entire US population!! Range Rovers, Mercs, Porsches are more commonplace on Shanghai & Beijing streets than Proboxes and Ractis on the streets of Nairobi. In 2018, China had more than 800 Dollar Billionaires compared to America's 500.

Lastly, this is not a trade war for the sake of it. There is an agenda behind all these shenanigans..... favourable negotiation outcomes, compromises etc. The US desires to at least level the playing field so that its companies and citizens can also benefit esp in international trade, and one of its tactics is imposition of tariffs on specific chinese goods. China had to retaliate, in self interest and self-preservation, by stopping the importation of Soy beans and Pork from the US, imposing heavy tariffs on sea-foods, luxury motor bikes etc. Huawei is simply the latest victim of the ongoing campaign.

You need to research more on China's economic and technological prowess. The US Economy is more likely to collapse, than China. And yes, Huawei will survive the onslaught, whereas Apple is likely to collapse. Check out Harley Davidson....its already on its knees.

The point was that Amazon has tried what Huawei is trying in regards to OS. As for 3rd OS (Ubuntu, Microsoft, Firefox OS) have had their shots rarely did they ever impact on Android and iOS.

its like mpesa, any highschool computer students can develop an mpesa like application - but success in that field is much more than the applications, its whole ecosystem, and the same applies to operating systems

In my argument, I was referring to developers not liking govt interferes with their business. All these giant companies buy their apps from developers. They can easily change the business model.

Huawei US war is not so much about OS but BTS thats why the US is trying to force Europe to cancel business. Will EU agree?

The point was that Amazon has tried what Huawei is trying in regards to OS. As for 3rd OS (Ubuntu, Microsoft, Firefox OS) have had their shots rarely did they ever impact on Android and iOS.

you are correct, even microsoft the giant when it comes to software tried and failed. As long as huawei is targeting the western market, they will need to find a way to work with the western companies.

In my argument, I was referring to developers not liking govt interferes with their business. All these giant companies buy their apps from developers. They can easily change the business model.

Huawei US war is not so much about OS but BTS thats why the US is trying to force Europe to cancel business. Will EU agree?

Huawei is not in a very bad place as half of their sales come from China where they do not use Google. They are also eating into Apple's market share in China where Apple has fallen by 30% reducing their company's projection drastically. Huawei can afford to experiment on a new system for the rest of the world while +50% of their market remains intact.
My question however is how the US directive affects Huawei in Kenya since they run Safaricom's infrastructure and we know in Kenya additional costs are always passed to the consumer.

BBI will solve it
