Interestingly,
The two (plus Bangladesh) were one country before WWII.
Kashmir aside, India's difference with Pakistan is largely an extension of Hindu-Muslim rivalry yet India's Muslim (15%)minority is actually bigger than Pakistanis entire population!
India is the world's largest weapons buyer; all meant to check Pakistan and China.

These two sets of people who are biologically indistinguishable from each other want to kill each other due differences in religion.

Is this another Uncle Sam project? We may not see or prove that now, but is it possible this will turn out later?

I would not be worried about India at all even with the hindu fundamentalists. Even as they are the majority India is also home to about 170 million muslims. The internal threat from muslims within India is big enough to deter any all out war with Pakistan leave alone a nuclear war. Modi is a Hindu but he is also a Gujarati and Gujaratis love money more than they love their 33 million gods.

In my opinion the most dangerous countries as far as nuclear war are concerned are small countries with one powerful leader who can do what he wants. So in this case North Korea would be the one to be most worried about. I would also worry about Pakistan if they get a thoroughly fanatical muslim or a guy who whipped up religious sentiment even though he himself was not necessarily fanatical. Here I am thinking about a guy like Erdogan of Turkey becoming leader in Pakistan. Another country I would be very worried about is Israel. Those guys can do anything and then blame it on someone else.

He has a very interesting life history. I should read his books especially his autobiography. Such a prolific author. And I agree there will be no war. He has already released the downed pilot "as a gesture of peace to India".

This war may be fought.... West (Pakistan) vs Russo-China (India)
When I have money, I get rid of it quickly, lest it find a way into my heart.

Just WONDERING LOUD who gave them all the 140-plus nuke warheads?
And how big / powerful are these warheads?

Are these warheads mountable on a missile or they must be delivered only by a bomber?
If they can be delivered by missile then this is a very serious issue.

that part of the world does not joke around! when india got it's first nuke (i think as a response to China getting it's first one) - Pakistan started working on its. Ali Bhutto said they must build theirs even if it meant that pakistan would eat grass or go hungry. A Pakistani scientist stole nuke designs or something from France and from there - they built their first... the "muslim" bomb it was monikered. And before you go rubbishing them about "oh... kumbe they stole"... I would like to remind you that stolen weapons don't know they are stolen! they will explode just as well as ones that were built by your own intelligence

I have always wondered why some people think they are the prefects of others while they are really pursuing their own interests... anyway... there were initial assistance from France and even Canada but the US turned a blind eye to Pakistan's nuclear capabilities since Pakistan was playing a big role in the US support of the Mujahedeen (now Known as Taliban) when Russia attacked Afghanistan.

Because the world allowed the bully to continue doing this... But now, the bully cannot hide anymore. People are learning the truth. Now people know that Uncle Sam is the cause of all these problems in the world. They are the ones who supply weapons...

Thank God Putin is putting an end to their bullying. When Russia went in to help Assad, Uncle Sam complained. They knew their so-called J1hadists will be cornered. Now Assad has taken control, there is peace... The number of brainwashed people is dropping by the day.

But it seems the bully is shifting to India...

The US is a reluctant empire... anyway there are people who don’t wait for permission to move forward. The people of the subcontinent are some of them.

There may be a slightly different explanation(s).

India and Pakistan acquired the weapons out of necessity and not because they are peculiar people. Generally the international state system will tend to support balance of power that is likely to maintain a preferred status quo.

There was a project in the US for establishing how quickly a country with fairly educated people can come up with the bomb and it turned out that it's not so difficult for a country to develop nukes. This could have informed the non nuclear proliferation treaty.

But with this treaty came a need for some countries to be given free reign otherwise the international system would have been unstable.

S. Africa surrendered its nuclear capacity for similar reasons, and generally countries will support the non proliferation treaty because in their contexts nukes would bring more disadvantage than advantage.

The idea seems to have worked given that both India and Pakistan have deescalated the conflict and localized the conflict to Kashmir.

BTW, there was a time, maybe last year when both armies engaged in non lethal warfare of pushing each other without extending hands, no punching no weapons.
