The Foreign affairs ministry has kicked out Somalia's ambassador to Kenya and recalled the Kenyan envoy in Mogadishu.

The beef is some off shore oil prospecting block that's claimed by both countries. Kenya says Somalia has gone ahead and auctioned the block in a London auction.

Tricky situation. Such tension may worsen things regarding even the war against al Shabaab who may score propaganda points.

This case has been in the hague for years, was it concluded? If you look at the pictures you'll wonder who in their right mind would buy those blocks.

Whoever is buying them is hoping to take advantage while the matter takes it's long course in court then take another long court battle with them after. They'll have nothing to lose, after all, this oil thing is like a brotherhood between companies, it's a monopoly.

ICJ ni koti ya Mbeberu. These colonialist could have decided to go to bed with Somalia and that would allow them easy access to our oil deposits.Court would just rule against Kenya and that would seal our fate.

Me think, this is a diversionary tactics. Keep Kenyans busy with USELESS topic while MAIN issues affecting them are swept under.

Govt is seriously in cash-flow crunch!!

Can't we demarcate our border with TZ the same way the Somalis have done(extrapolation)?

Looks Logical & reasonable enough. We should share that disputed area like Kashmir.

I beg to differ.
Suppose the tip of our border with TZ juts out in the opposite direction (and there are such cases elsewhere) to this one; wouldn't we end up with a rather small share of the ocean once the two lines intersect.

@gk there is no possibility of the two imaginery lines intersecting within the first 20,000km.they are almost parallel.smile

If they go by Somalia's line of thought then Somalia will infringe into Kenyan territory (12 Nautical miles)

What would happen if Kenya decided to withdraw her soldiers from Somalia? Would it not be a blessing in disguise for the troops withdrawal as this would give Nairobi an opportunity to take back this maritime triangle effortlessly?Drool

What if they drew a border line right in the middle of that desputed area? Or they decide never to allow any economical activity there and leave it as that? (Although I know human greed only sees money everywhere).

From maritime bounday standards, somalia is right and kenya is wrong, ICJ will rule for Somalia

I think you do not extrapolate the border into the sea, rather while standing at any point on the coastline within your territory you are supposed to look directly out into the sea and those are the territorial waters that belong to you.

I beg to differ, you don't extrapolate your boundary, you assume the latitude at point where your boundary hits the shoreline. Thus, Kenya is right and our peers are wrong.
Somalia being easier to whack, got whacked, whacking us too.
The whacker just playing what you can get away with to both Kenyans and Somalians, Kenyans most for we have to battle it out with a oiled girl in bed with the big boot owner.

Quiz, do the prospectus do due diligence on such acquisitions. If yes, should it not be fair to support late professor Ali Mazurui's call for nuclearisation of African states just like Kim Jing Jong did ,just, at least to stand our grounds on our sovereignty.
Once eaten twice the sweeter. Northern Kenya, Western Kenya, Trukana lake regions
among others are all potentially disputable areas ready to be eaten too.
Who is next.

And for avoidance of any doubts, am a Kenyan, and am free to think Kenyan on matters affecting me as a Kenyan.

Just as yo let your thoughts go wild, remember that the Cushites arrived in modern day Kenya before the Nilotes came from east of the Nile, before Bantus came from central Africa eastwards and southwards... I thought you should know

As for the nuclearisation, I agree with you. This will boost our manufacturing by reducing cost of production... It will also improve balance of power, sending a signal to others not to mess with us...
