Its unbelievable what people can do for money. Kenya is categorized with the likes of Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Burma etc.

Who stands to Gain in such unfair categorization?.

I agree with the listing 100%. If you test all parameters of development, you will realise how far behind we are. Its only that the average kenyan is ignorant. One hallmark of failed states is civil war and we almost achieved it two years ago.

Corruption,Tribalism,fatheads for leaders and ignorance will make sure that we remain at the lowest ebb in the world for decades to come. No ray of hope.

Why then is UN ugrading Nairobi to Categoey B and as expected UN employees in nairobi are raising issues.

Its difficult to relate the two, but Kenya doesn't resemble Afghanistan or Pakistan or burma in any way. Uganda fairs much better even with rabel leader Gen. Joseph Kony on the northern side.

If you visit some of the countries classfied together with kenya, you'll realize how good kenya is.

Looks like Kenya being in the bad books can also be business for others. UN staff getting a category C allowance due to insecurity while Nairobi is no worse than New York. How many NGOs are there for conflict resolution? Such a report can also be used to show that there are 'needs' and therefore justify donor support.

Two potential problems with these stats:

1. They will usually talk to mzungu expats and tourists when gathering these statistics. Not an objective source of info.
2. Partially because of 1 and more, they target nations that do not cooperate with the US/UK axis.

In other words, if they could, they would put China as the number 1 failed state - just that it would sound ridiculous to do so.

We can't be in the same league as Burma, Pakistan, etc. This ranking is nonsense.
