@ Webish its great you have decided to take the leap into stocks i can guarantee that you wont regret it.
First Wazua is a great resource but never ever take advice from this site at face value. Avoid hot tip they are usually over rated guess work. Wazua helps you focus your research on the few companies that might be good value.
Your stock broker is more often than not a hyped up and well educated shop keeper. Advice from your stock broker should always be followed up by research! Never buy just because anyone told you including your broker.
Do your research. Check SK archives to see how people do it. Basically papers(dont forget the East African), company website and always looks at the companies books. If you don't know how to look at the books learn!!! Wazua is a great resource. There are several blogs out there bankelele for banks and a few techno related issues and companies. Stock brokers usually have weekly and monthly reviews on the market some stock brokers are better than others but not all are infallible so always do your research.
There is always another rally coming up. It is never too late to invest in value stocks you havent missed anything you have just started your journey!!
You will get your fingers burnt that is given. With good research, Wazua, and good luck(Dont rely on this) you can mitigate the risk to low levels.
My advice on the stocks you might want to buy is Mumias, centum. Do your research and decide which one you want to buy into.
You can invest small save 5-7 k per month and keep buying Most campus students can do this especially if your on the loan. Dont use your chacha money( Is helb loan still called that) to buy a stereo or telly buy share you wont regret it.

@qw... there is no way you can advise a novice still in uni to trade instead of invest unless you want to destroy his/ her wealth

@webish your probably still young so i would advise you put small amounts at a time in a good company for a long period of time and avoid diversification if you choose the long term

Congrats for taking the initiative at an age when your pals could be using their money on the latest cellphones and other niceties.

I suggest you get some simple books of R. Kiyosaki; Rich Dad Poor Dad, Cash Floe Quadrand and Retire Young Retire Rich. You will stay focussed.
