Agreed, this is a project capable of disrupting transportation in Kenya, Africa and the rest of the developing world.

the elephant in the room, which mawinder has already pointed out, is the psv angle. you carry anyone for money (whatever you call it) you become a psv. wait till the insurance start giving disclaimers in the event of accidents (forget about the police for a minute) then you would know how disruptive it really is.

Non issue. You get the numbers, you determine the price of insurance. Granted, premiums on nipe lift will be higher than private use vehicles but lower than uber et al and matatus.

For those signing up try to contact your insurance company or broker for a WRITTEN clarification and report back here. I raised the query as I have served on an Insurance Brokerage Firm Board and am fully aware of the implication of receiving even Shs 10 from a person you have ferried in your vehicle while having a Private Motor vehicle cover and not PSV.

so how may private vehicle owners would be ready to pay extra on their premiums so that they may make that extra 50-100 bob a day (non-guaranteed in any event)? already enough motor vehicles are on third party coz comprehensive insurance is too much for them to handle. and terming it an non-issue is an even a bigger problem.

word. there is a reason that even in a case of ride sharing where your passenger is paying for part fuel, if you're prudent you don't mention that in case of an accident.

Lots of people are risking anyway and giving people paid for lifts even today. They will deal with insurance the way they deal with it now.

Expect lots of traffic police harassment especially on major highways eg Nairobi-Nakuru when it picks up.

I think boni needs an aggressive marketing campaign this festive season.

Police shall arrest and deal with private vehicles masquerading as PSV appropriately. They have come up with a means of exposing such and this penilift is the easiest to arrest..

problem would be in case of an accident. in the normal situations the paying passengers wont disclose that they paid because they know if they do the insurance wont pay them. however with this, all the loss adjusters would need to do is to find out if the motor vehicle owner is registered with the nipe lift and then proceed appropriately.

Let me leave this here...

There is no law against carpooling, a Senior Prosecution Counsel has said.
Duncan Ondimu from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution criticised a police directive requiring passengers travelling in private cars be related to the driver.
In a tweet directed to the National Police Service official page and IPOA, Ondimu said the Traffic Police commandant was "out of line on carpooling".
"We owe a duty to Kenyans and let them know carpooling ain't illegal. Article 50(2)(n) of the Constitution is very clear. You can't charge someone for a non-existent offence," Ondimu said on Saturday.
"You can't punish people who chose to reduce the cost of holiday by carpooling," adding there was nothing illegal in carrying non-relatives.
"What about intermarriage in families? Carpooling is not illegal," he added.
Commandant Jacinta Muthoni had directed that police to use identification cards to net private cars carrying passengers.
On Thursday, Amnesty International demanded
police withdraw the directive.
While agreeing that private cars should not operate as PSVs because they lack the authority to do so, Country Director Justus Nyangaya said the order
"makes no sense and has no basis in law".

Ghost account but we shall arrest those pseudo PSV this season and insurance company shall not pay victims for accidents for vehicles registered under peni lift without a valid PSV cover. If you want to be believed, post a court ruling or judgment not nonsensical gutter press.Go back to your nipe lift illegalities and don't create pseudo accounts to spread illegal business

Section 2 of the traffic act defines a PSV and section 95 of the same act gives provisions for license to PSVs..This NipeLift falls squarely there. Those in doubt can read and challenge me here.It is illegal and the Insurance Contract will be rendered null as a result.

The law is always subject to interpretition and amendment. It always is in case of disruptive market forces.

Nipe lift is disruptive. Insurance companies will have to come with with a new product for nipe lift users.

The law will have to re-define meaning and boundaries of PSV. Laws are made to serve the people and do not act in vain.

This is what i thought, insurance companies should develop products to cater for such a new market segnment not curtail its growth. That is the way the economy should work - promote not hinder innovation.

Though at the moment @mawinder &mkenya are right and you know how our cops and judiciary system work.

Nothing disruptive about it..The initial idea behind Uber was like this Nipelift..As things stand now, nipelift minus fully complying with PSV is criminal
