Cargo to or from port? isn't it rather obvious? Of course it's from the port headed to ICD Nairobi It's both ways. Lots of tea, coffee, tobacco, macadamia, avocado, hides and skins, powdered milk, garments from EPZ, pyrethrum etc heading to mombasa for export. Each train ferrying the equivalent of 140 x 20ft containers. That is same as having 70 trucks on the road. With 7 cargo trains per day that is 490 trucks off the road each day leading to safer roads and less wear and tear of the roads saving billions for wanjiku. since the launch of SGR curiously accidents have reduced between Nairobi and Msa, still alot of accidents towards western Kenya But fatalities increased this year I care!

Kayhara. If the mysteries of investing in the right location elude you, no amount of sighing will help . And who says we are buying next to the track in the middle of nowhere? Passenger stations and ICDs are the key words my broda! Your question is like asking why on earth would a person buy land right next to KR HQ off Haile Selassie Road in 1910. Too much noise! How much is that land worth now though?

Quote:The push to have importers use the SGR and pick their cargo from the Nairobi Inland Container Depot in Embakasi also breathed life into the previously lacklustre facility, pushing its handling capacity last year to 257,972 TUEs in 2017.
According to a KPA report, last year, the Embakasi ICD handled 177, 652 TUES imported into the county, up from 15,110 units in 2017. The depot also saw a rise on the Empty units heading back to the Mombasa port from the depot stood at 68,619 units, up from 10,636 in 2017. In September, Kenya Railways completed the port relief line to the conventional cargo berth, and also announced that it will allow businessmen to extend the line to their premises. https://www.nation.co.ke...61200-mpw9jhz/index.html

Is Adventist university of Africa-Magadi Road holding back on-time completion of SGR Phase 2A?. I noticed SGR girders on each end of CMM grounds (@ Maxwell area) on either side of the conference grounds. suggesting that, the contractor is yet to get access to that ground. Any one in the know on what is going on there?. ....He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion..
