My honest opinion, the hike has not seen a reduction of private motorists in Nairobi, in fact, I feel the traffic is worse.

Unye ashikilie hapo kidogo, we see how it goes.

It's too early, people are still using fuel bought on 31st August. Moreover, people are still loaded with Aug salary

Higher fuel prices are good for some of us since our roads will now be less clogged by jalopies from the struggling middle class and we will now be able to cruise in our machines in comfort. Infact they should increase petrol to 200 bob to free our roads.

I know yours is a selfish thought but it's not just about your vehicle and jalopies. Infact an increment of 14/- is not that great for someone with a jalopy. The problem is the ripple effect. You raise the price of fuel, inflation goes up, cartels take advantage... it's just a mess.

But what I'm wondering is, when we defer this VAT to 2020, what will be different in 2020,we will still cry the same way. And what will replace it now because the money is still needed? Maybe increase of VAT to 18% from 16?

BBI will solve it

I foresee alot of smuggling of fuel at the border especially by boda boda guys using the panya routes. A boda boda can carry 4 x 20l jerricans of fuel - petrol, diesel or kerosene. If he sells at 10 bob margin thats 800 bob per trip. I think soon all cars, matatus and lorries operating at the border will be fueled using the smuggled fuel.

Favours those near the border and not seeing it as inconvenience.

If the queues I saw today at Petro stations are anything to go by, then as a govt, I would only be worried about 'steady' supply and not reducing the 16% VAT.

It does not necessarily have to be at the border. Most, if not all of the fuel destined for Uganda passes through Kenya either by road from Mombasa or through the pipeline to Eldoret and then by road from there.

GOK will suddenly realize there is increased "demand" from Uganda and some Petrol station owners in Eldoret and Mombasa will become overnight millionaires. Information on where to find cheap fuel travels very fast. The petrol stations with it will not even have to be in Mombasa or Eldoret, they could be in remote areas like Kapenguria or Mutomo in Kitui and people will still find them and flock there.

True queues= Demand no

As long as Kenyans are obsessed with driving then that 16% will be soon forgotten.

Quietly pay the 16% to drive better roads. Hakuna cha bwerere. Free education, free health free roads, who's paying that bill?

But UK might bow to pressure sometimes the populist in him takes over

The 16% is already forgotten. The issue now is the fuel shortage not the cost. Someone out there knows Kenyans too well. Na ati mulikuwa munataka kuboycott ngata! Laughing out loudly
