Am thinking of starting in May @Matata: I have heard of it too,,they are calling it Kuroiler and it is a major success both in India and Uganda. I think it is worth it before the market floods. You can get them from Naivasha-Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (Kari) station. They are breeding and selling eggs and day old chicks. give it a try and come here after 6 Months and share your feedback/experience. ....He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion..

Become a shylock. If you have 100k, start giving soft loans to people in your office at 15-20% interest payable monthly. There will always be a need for cash. That demand will never drop. Those watu who haribika before 18th watakuletea biz sana. My take. Your money will always grow.

@657300, How do you secure the funds? Lending without proper security is risky. Members?

Set up a premium rate line(s) on all networks (e.g. 10 bob a call), then start a phone sex hotline in all local languages. Pay performers according to the time they keep clients on phone (e.g. 30% of time spent). Keep the rest.
Forecast the number of calls per day and length of each call. Caveat? keeping minors from calling.
Pay me a commission when you get started.

Tailoring business!!! I know a family who run such and the turnover is in millions, they deal in school uniforms, factory overalls, reflective gear for motorbikes and factory people, they recently made uniforms for county council staff, and also those reflective clothes worn by traffic police, This biz is very nice and uncrowded I was just looking at the people who made and make jambojet and kq uniforms, they must be making a killing.

Hardly, What i mean is this.. if you are going to talk about a butchery as a business idea then share what you will do different from the next guy that will make it brilliant or amazing. Every kind of business activity has money making potential.. that does not make them inherently amazing does it? People are just saying "well how about a kinyozi? you can get location x and charge y" then someone responds, "yeah thats great, thats amazing" ??

I am looking to venture into making charcoal briquettes using rice husks. Am hoping to acquire a briquette making machine and a drier. Any Wazuan who has ventured into this ? I would like to know the kind of machines to use and roughly the cost of running it.

missanono wrote:All the ideas above are brilliant but having started a business before and sort of failing I learnt one thing.Don't put down any money before you do your research.
For example the gym idea sounds great on the surface but what if you invest that much and people just don't come to you.Instead, find at least twenty people in Roysambu, ask them if they work out or if they are interested in working out.And how much they would spend per month on working out.
Same as the butchery idea.Find out how much the people in the area make on average from their salaries.Do surveys around the area and try to find out how many times a week on average people in this area can afford to eat meat.
It's not about a great idea actually,it's about if your target market can pay for whatever your business offers. And pay for it regularly for you to make a profit and grow.
Priscilla aka Miss Anono This is a good reminder

Christmas came early for his kids. This is what happened to my friend. His meat would go bad like daily due to power outages despite having a fridge. Then his workers workers would feed the same to estate dogs. Over time like 2 weeks most dogs in the estate knew where to gather for a meal. My friend got so incensed and closed the butchery. It was in Dohnholm.Todate if he comes across a stray dog even as far as Wangigi he is tempted to hot it with a stone thinking its heading to his butchery. punda amecheka

Its extremely profitable with low start up capital as long as you are in a strategic position. I used to run one in dagoretti corner but decided to sell it off since i didnt have a honest person to run it.He used to buy and sell his own stock at my expenses yet am the one who was paying rent, He could inflate the buying price or just buy bad meat. My monthly running expenses were as below 1.Rent:8K 2.Salary:15K 3.Bad stock and shortages:15K 4.Miscellaneous (water, electricity and filing)-5K 5.My fuel( to check on the bugger):5K I never had a freezer to store meat since i didn't see the need for it;I used to buy stock thrice per week. The buying price per kg ranged between 230-250 depending on the days and selling price was 360. I used to make an average sales of 30Kgs per day with monthly net profit of 50k-60K great insight. sad that you moved from meat to 'fish' business.would things have been different if you installed a CCTV camera in your business? punda amecheka
