Their stores are very basic (except 2 rivers & Hub). No phombe, no vegetables, no meat etc etc. No variety. Huge disappointment and waste of space. Stores very stuffy one feels like suffocating. Should work on their ventilation esp at junction, sarit and TRM.

Therefore, the deal cannot be a merger, says the regulator. Source Link From The Business Daily Carrefour already have all the prime spots previously held by Nakumatt.. Why is it taking forever for malls to have other supermarkets take up space that was occupied by nakumatt? Malls should just swallow their pride and invite local supermarkets such as naivas, tuskys etc to take up the space instead of the malls waiting forever for foreign supermarkets to come and set shop.

Could be the target clientele they would like to attract and the other shops that they have attracted in the malls. "Things that matter most must never be at the mercy of things that matter least." The other shops are closing due to lack of customers visiting the mall eg at ridgeways which is now a ghost mall with many shops vacated.

I was wondering why some landlords could not try and at-least save the nakumatts in their premises, an example is city mall mombasa, the traffic to the mall has fallen by a great percentage since nakumatt closed some other businesses have closed as a result, eg the nice butchery, cold stone etc, the parking is almost always empty as the neighboring naivas overflows even allowing customers to parallel park on the driveways, city mall is still empty but with word that shoprite will open soon but still as a landlord I would have tried to work with nakumatt even if it was to make the branch semi independent. It's like having your apartment empty for months on end as you plead with a certain "high end tenant" to rent it .....while the monthly mortgage payments are killing you.
