Quote:
Kenya Railways got a boost after a global shipping company committed to transport its cargo from the Port of Mombasa to the Inland Container Deport in Nairobi through the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) Maersk Shipping Line East Africa flagged off two full block trains with its exclusive cargo to the ICD in Nairobi, a move that is expected to boost SGR freight services.

The two trains were loaded with 108 Maersk containers which were offloaded directly from the ship and loaded on the cargo train, in what has proved to be advantageous in terms of saving time and cost. The move is expected to improve the number of cargo being transported through the SGR that has been experiencing low volumes of containers after shipping. Clearing and forwarding agents have opposed the governmentโ€™s directives to have cargo.

But the lunatic express and mombasa road cut right through tsavo and no one complains. Why the hullabaloo about nairobi park? Also the residents of south C and Karen refused to have the reli to pass through their estates. Residents of kitengela were also demanding billions in compensation if the reli was to pass there and we the poor wanjiko couldn't afford.

One year down the line:
SGR raked in kes.1B in past one year of operations...326B remaining to break even...and that's not considering the interest accrued, plus the cost of running the line.

Who told you rail is for profit? It's like roads, govt has obligation to provide infrastructure that enables business, movement of people & goods etc.

Well said. The rail is a facilitator. Ask the wazungus how much direct profits the old 1901 rail road made.

BBI will solve it
