The two trains were loaded with 108 Maersk containers which were offloaded directly from the ship and loaded on the cargo train, in what has proved to be advantageous in terms of saving time and cost. The move is expected to improve the number of cargo being transported through the SGR that has been experiencing low volumes of containers after shipping. Clearing and forwarding agents have opposed the government’s directives to have cargo.

Supplementary budget documents tabled in Parliament last week show that allocations to the SGR project dropped by Sh42 billion, including the Sh32 billion held back by the lender. The remaining Sh10 billion was counterpart financing from the railway development levy fund that has now been reallocated to pay contractors who built the Mombasa-Nairobi section of the project and settle the management fees payable to the Chinese operator of the rail line.read on... Also the residents of south C and Karen refused to have the reli to pass through their estates. Ask the wazungus how much direct profits the old 1901 rail road made. BBI will solve it :)
