Dear Wazuans please advise, I was a member of a sacco but left for another sacco 6years ago but was unable to sell my capital shares and still hold the share certificate. I have not received any dividend on the shares since then. Am I entitled to the yearly dividends on the shares?.

You should be getting dividends. Have you contacted them about that?

This is an old post and then the following SACCO's were regarded as the best at the time:
Mhasibu Sacco
muramati sacco
Stima SACCO
Kimisitu

Are they still good. Am looking for one to join.

Mhasibu AGM Resolutions;
1) Extension of the common bond to include other likeminded professionals (a policy will be crafted to guide the process)
2) Distribution of surplus – 8.25% interest on deposits and 20% dividends on share capital
3) Payment of Directors honoraria of KES 2,500,000
4) To retain the borrowing powers at KES 100 million
5) The Board to report to the members, within 6 months, the status and way forward regarding Mhasibu Properties Limited (MPL).
6) The Board to undertake the process of appointing a new External Auditor

I might not comment on the best sacco to join but I can advice on the one to avoid at all cost. Kilele Sacco, Upperhill. The mother sacco to KUSCCO - imagine. Dividends were declared and passed in AGM in April and upto today some members are yet to receive and nobody seems to give any info. The officials there keep passing the buck and giving lame excuses. Getting a loan is like trying to get blood from a stone.

My governor has waited for 1yr for a loan that was approved to be credited. The cash flow issue will mess them up big time especially potential members will be afraid to join

ooh and they cant get your shares transferred to another sacco either!

Their loan book is full of Nakumatt employees so that's where all the trouble started. Now that guys have panicked and withdrawn their funds I dont see them surviving. The recent collapse of banks and saccos doesnt inspire confindence so expect everybody to run when the first shot is fired.

Some years ago I resigned from the Sacco where I was a member. I applied for a refund of my shares but since a colleague who I had guaranteed a loan had defaulted on his loan repayment, my shares were held as security. The guy eventually cleared paying for the defaulted loan but now the Sacco has refused to pay me my shares back.
I have written to the Sacco officials but they don't bother to respond and the officials don't take my calls. Where can I get assistance. The Sacco is based in Nairobi. Thanks Wazuans.

Walk there, make a hell of a noise, threaten you are reporting them to the ministry of the Cooperatives and if they do not budge, make good your threat... chances are, they wont let you leave the door without a solution.

Shares are not refundable. They are ownership and form capital of the Sacco. The best one can do is sell/transfer to another member
