@impunity, if you're registered on airtel money, its just a matter of send money, input no of the receiver, sending is free but withdrawal you get charged.

It is possible.
The receiver will have to go to an Airtel money agent to withdraw.

The receiver receives a certain code that they will tell to the agent.

NB: that code will be a secret that should be known to the receiver only

That code 'expires' and money returns back to the sender if it is not utilized after a certain number of days

Yes, very possible.

To add to the answers above, the code expires in 7 days.

So the confirmation code will remain in my inbox like forever?

What happens if one stills my code? How will he used to withdraw cash?

if someone STEALS your code, they can STEAL your money, because airtel does not have KYC info of the recipient, they can walk to any agent and withdraw

the airtel agent usually takes your phone to read the code/sms. The origin of this code is from airtelmoney so a keen agent should check the ORIGIN of the sms. Also a confirmation sms is supposed to be sent automatically from airtelmoney to the phone number which was genuinely supposed to receive the money shortly after the agent key's in the code from the customer into the agents phone (the agent asks for the customer's phone number which is keyed in together with the withdrawal code)

So now, 5 years later it's possible to transfer across networks from last month(April 2018)

Airtel seem to have blocked that option of sending to other network via the Airtel Money menu. You now have to use USSD *222*1#. It's not working for me though, anyone else tried it?

It's NO LONGER FREE to send from Airtel to other networks, I guess

I've read on the link below that now Airtel clients can now only withdraw from Airtel agents and MPESA from MPESA agents.
