Update from KRFU.........

Kenya led an interesting bunch of teams in qualifying for the quarter finals of the Safaricom Sevens 2010 after topping Pool A with a perfect three wins from three. Their opening fixtures against the Samurai Baracudas was an anti-climax of sorts with Benjamin Ayimba's side pulverizing Chester Williams team into a 46-0 defeat. They would follow this up with a 29-0 win over Zambia before stopping French side Les Bleu 29-7 to secure top place.

The second Kenyan side, Shujaa, also made it to the main cup quarters after finishing second in Pool behind Grenoble. Fancied Zimbabwe and Argentina failed to advance from this group and will be in bowl action on Sunday.

Debutantes Ponsonby topped Pool D, winning all three matches to get to the quarters alongside Uganda. Hamilton Raiders failed to advance from this group.

Uganda schools earlier beat Nairobi 27-0 to claim the schools title.

9.40am Zimbabwe v Rwanda
10.00am Namibia v Samurai

10.20am Womens Final

I think I know what is wrong with the Kenyan sevens team...its a BODI mindset, while they maybe BODIs, they have forgotten the basics of Sevens rugby, I have not seen a ball do A second phase at all, they seem to be thinking CONTACT CONTACT CONTACT and they may lose to a team like Emerging springboks who have fast BODIs yet seem to sometimes let the ball do the rounds up and down the pitch.

Kenya wins through sudden death against the Emerging Boks.
17-12, last grasp try from a Biko Adema grabber kick to which Sidney Ashioya dove through the watered pitch for a corner flag try.

Well in boys. Khayange lifts yet another Safari Sevens trophy.

Kenya have not been the IRB World Sevens Series side throughout the tournament and against the E'Boks, they were clearly struggling. The rain did not help matters either - a lot of handling problems because of the wet conditions.

Next assignment commonwealth games, Delhi India, October 2010 and the team must be reconstituted if they expect to be in the medal bracket. They will up against Samoa, New Zealand, South Africa, Fiji (the usual IRB suspects) plus a host of other strong rugby playing nations.

Let us wait and see what the KRFU is planning for Kenya 7s!

@bkismat, it was all green but in the final - the REDs won against the Greens.
