Our economy and other factors are to blame.Mature companies are finding it rough in the business.NMG,Bamburi,BAT,EABL,Carbacid and BOC are reporting declining revenues YOY.

Dividends are paid from retained earnings.
I do understand your dilemma since loss-making firms like KQ cannot pay a dividend at all.

I believe that once management and the board concludes that the business environment/economics are such that they can not reinvest the company's funds to generate decent returns for shareholders, its actually prudent and beneficial to return these funds to shareholders. Whether it props up share price or not is a non issue.
