The timer has come for the world's most watched event, the FiFa World Cup depending on where you sit, surely you can't ignore the hype and anticipation, my case St Georges Flag everywhere!! Office, cars, homes etc.

Now here are some of the moments/tit bits to go down in history as memorable ones. Lets all chip in.

Jean Manga-Onguene - Cameroon's greatest footballer never to have graced the world stage. In 1982 after Cameroon qualified for their first world cup, they were training in Germany and Jean received a ferocious tackle from behind and tore a ligament and subsequently went home.A young replacement with no experience was called from home and that replacement was Roger Miller.

Saeed Al-Owairan - In the 1994 world cup Minnows Saudi Arabia qualified for the first time and as expectd nothing was expected of them, in their first game against Belgium. Saeed got the ball deep in their half and run all the way past four Belgium defenders to score arguably the best world cup goal to date, earning the nickname the maradona of the arabs..He became a national icon partied so hard when he went back home and was jailed as a result of that.

Alcides Ghiggia - In the 1950 world cup, Uruagauy silenced the 200,000 Maracana crowd with two wonder strikes from Ghiggia to win the final of the world cup in Rio, and he famously commented that
"Only three people in history have managed to silence the Maracana
with a single gesture: the Pope, Frank Sinatra and I"

@ Ric Dees -nice thread

just wondering whether football has gone so tactical that players aren't given the 'freedom' to unleash/showcase their wizardry!

Am waiting to see maradona run naked if they win the worldcup!

yeah...football's gone so tactical.what with "parking the bus in front of the goal" Having said that, i hear Maradona was the kind of football genius who wrote poetry with his feet on the pitch, so much such that, in the 1986 worldcup, he danced with the ball, past the midfield, leaving 5 english defenders dead and went on to score arguably one of the most beautiful goals of the world cup , knocking out England from the competition....all commentators ran out of superlatives to describe Maradona's wizardry with the ball.He singlehandedly won the the worldcup for Agentina on his own, albeit with the 'hand of God'.... Anyone with the wonder goal of 1986 on you tube?

It was said that those blasphemous words of 'hand of God' are what led Maradona to go through all the problems that he subsequently had...drugs etc

Who is ranked as the greatest? Maradona or Pele?

Jose Antonio Camacho - Spanish coach in the 2002 world cup when it was co-hosted in South Korea and Japan. Now the weather was unbelievably hot and this guy kept on wearing silk shirts and whenever he raised his hands..well now you get the picture

I tend to differ.
When you convert the Fifa timetable to local time the game should start at 5:00

In the 1986 Mexico finals the Rats V Bats duel was solved when Rats scored a stunner against Bats putting it up right up there with the wonder goals of the finals.

During the 1974 World Cup, Brazil were playing Zaire the only African team to qualify that year..

They were duly labeled the clowns of the tournament here is one of such moments..
