What is the actual difference between a road trip(Bus) and SGR. Please see a loose comparison I have come up with.

1. Time taken from Nairobi CBD to Msa CBD is same(8 hrs)
2. SGR fare is actually higher

The only time you should be looking down on others is when you are helping them up.

There's a thread in the green section highlighting the issues with the bus ride
The SGR ride is 5hrs by the way

i cant upload my pict.. it has actual comparisons. 5 hrs is train time. If you consider how long it takes to syokimau and then to msa CBD it is 8 hours

If you take the commuter train at Syokimau you will be at railways in 30-45 mins

Personally, i swore NEVER to take a bus again.

In 2016 I took a bus from Nrb at 10:30pm and got to Msa the next day at 9. I took a night bus from Msa at 10:00 and got to alight out of it at 11Am the next morning.

If you get that bus that gets to Nrb in 8 hrs, good for you

In 2015 I took a bus from Mombasa, left the town at 10am, got to Nairobi at 9pm. In 2017 I took from Nairobi, left at 10pm, got to Mombasa at 8am. You have to be lucky for it to take 8hrs by bus, and if you are unlucky and there is a snarl up at Taru or Lukenya, 24hrs it is

The full benefits of SGR would be felt if we had a mass transit system at both ends.
Such comparisons as this would be dead on arrival

Comfort, time and convenience does it for me. Comfort that I can stand and stretch my legs when I desire to do so, Time.. the four uninterrupted hours vs being at the mercy of a traffic jam or dusty road construction and convenience of getting to alight at different stages without having to shout my lungs out at the driver, who decides if and where to drop me depending on his mood!

i still prefer to drive my swift between Mombasa and Nairobi, costs me about 2,500 each way, always fun along the way, stops and detours into camping sites and towns, takes whole day though.
If i want to travel fast I take a flight usually around 4500 one-way, the problem with SGR at the moment is timing, it's not very friendly to business people who make up the majority of daily passengers, an evening and early morning train would be nice say 8pm and 6 am.

Yeah.
Currently as it is, with only morning trips, it's not that attractive..

Politics aside, the costumes/drama aside- especially at check in where the Chinese have extensive checks than Jkia itself (read sniffer dogs...)

A Multi Criteria Analysis indicates SGR to be an unreasonable economic investment. We overspent on the damn project, for what....?! Aside from Awing first time visitors/train users

Theres nothing ‘awing’ about the SGR service nor the product.. The Ethiopia Djibouti train service is more thrilling
