You are wrong. After independence those wazungus who sold their properties in the white highlands had two options. To go back to England or retire in Kenya. Some decided to remain and bought plots in the former karen coffee estate which were 20 acre plots (for many, moving from a "bwana kubwa" 10,000 acre farm in kinangop or kitale to some tiny 20 acre kaploti was the worst humiliation. Also karen was being marketed as a retirement home to wazungus especially the WWII war veterans. That is how we ended up with many whites in karen. However at the time karen was so remote, mud bogged and inaccessible that only the daring bought the land there (like buying in kamulu or kisaju, isinya now). Lavington, muthaiga, gigiri were better choices for those who were more moneyed. After the original colonial mzungus died, their sons started subdividing and selling the land at 5 acre plots, then 2.5 acres, then 1 acre and now 0.5. And soon it will be 1/4 acre and 50X100 since the poorly educated and jobless msungu sons need cash.
