rate cap,if lifted it should settle at 65 where it was before the cap

That rate cap wont be lifted within the short term period.

what i am wondering is

- will banks lend more if rates cap is lifted ?

I do not know why banks would lend more especially of the GOK continues to borrow so much from the domestic market

also with IFRS 9 implementation, even if banks increase lending won't the provisions also go up assuming that those borrowing at higher rates will find it harder to service the loans

The economy seems broken hence lending shall not be viable in the short term

The President has directed state corporations to remit 90% of their reserves to Central Government to reduce GOK borrowing

How much of state corporations deposists does KCB hold and what will be the impact?

Most of them are under funded so where is the money going to come from.

Today, the accepted wisdom is that the reason we are seeing a drop in the flow of credit to the private sector in Kenya is the impact of interest rates capping law in Kenya.

If you agree with this notion, how then do you explain the fact that Tanzania and Uganda, despite not having interest rate caps, are also experiencing a similar drop in the take- up of credit?

Clearly, this is but a simplistic explanation to a very complex problem. The elephant in the room is the sharp decline in liquidity-injecting financing brought about by the spike in these Chinese and Chinese-type loans, which do not stimulate positive multiplier effects in the macro economy.

But Honey, @Heri said Central Government Not Central Bank.

Perhaps @Heri was thinking of Treasury Bills and Treasury Bonds.
