Why did the americans change their minds so fast. I can only guess that since obama snobbed his 'home' country, the airline did not feel convinced enough that kenya can be a direct route to the US. OOOOOoooohhh what a loss and dissapointments!

The future is already here!

The decision was not taken by the airline per se'

Why does the US gives us the cold shoulder,I can't understand. Is it something we refuse to give them. It has nothing to do with the current gava, there is a history of the successive US gava's snubbing Kenya.

They also have a similar cold uneasy relationship with Nigeria and India. May be the Brits want to retain their influence and have asked the US to keep off as part of some dodgy world domination deal.

The Obama presidency is happy to carry on from where Clinton and Bush left off. The last 3 US presidents have visited Ghana and TZ but not Kenya or Nigeria. The same way the US is more receptive to Pakistan but not to India. Why is this the case.

Where's the evidence that we are more exposed to terrorists than Tanzania or Egypt. We were both bombed in 1998 and for Egypt, they have had so many more terror attacks.

I can imagine a direct Delta flight from Nairobi to the US would cut out the Heathrow stop over. Oh and Delta also does direct flights from Accra,do they do one from Lagos? Not sure but if I was an airline,I would pick Lagos over Accra everyday.

I guess if you can't win with facts, you can always pen bile-laced,xenophobic rants to distract everyone.

@Obi: ...and Al Qaeda has told Obama that he is not welcome in Egypt. The issue of terrorism in Kenya does not suffice.

@Lyanne.

I can assure you its not our coalition pigs. Its something else. If TZ had some decent infrastructure the Delta airline would have landed there kitambo sana.

Impressive! The way you guys quickly catch-on to the news,I was scheduled on the flight ...(did not opt for alternate via Amsterdam) ... had discussions with Delta folks, the flight was stopped by Homeland Security without any specific reasons given, but,in all likelihood,it has to do with security or governmental relationship.

It was an ambitious schedule; four direct flights a week from ATL to NBO with a brief refuel stop in Dakar. Not sure what will happen to folks scheduled for flowers conference in US on a Delta flight...

It would have been a significant boast for Kenya's sagging tourist industry.

In cases like this, our gava has to directly engage the Homeland Security and iron out any pending issues,in all matters,we have to articulate for our own interests... it will NEVER be handed to us. It’s hardly constructive to yell imperialism and related empty rhetoric.

i am all for the gava proactively engaging the DHS.

but I am even more for the gava looking east like its going out of fashion and get rid of all this patronising nonsense.

we do that, organise our govt and i can assure you that the west (incl. US) will come looking for us and not the other way round.

@ Obi

You could be right,i once spotted cows grazing inside the perimeter fence of JKIA as you drive from the Pride Center.

It shocked me ! I think it all has to do with security.

Chirau was to be on that flight. Is he clocking his daily 100K per diem in Atlanta as he waits for DHS to give the all clear?

Well what to say...security is the west's Ace and by now surely they need to come up with something else..well as this may be true as i think the biggest problem is when guys jetting in and out mix..i remember bumping into a pal of mine who was going to SA and had just arrived and we chatted for like 20 min... this scenario is what i believe the Americans would be uncomfortable with as it's very easy to pass/exchange stuff to other passeengers.

World politics is interesting and it's played in the corporate world everyday..someone has mentioned the last 3 US presidents giving us the cold shoulder but it's simply we have refused to play ball..I am currently reading confessions of an economic hitman and it outlines reasons for Saddams execution and the current problems in Pakistan is soley because Pervez has refused to play with the big boys...

I may not be privy to exactly know whats going on in Kenya and the US..but i know Kenya does not sit well with most of this guys and this is a good thing as they do not like when we think for ourselves or when we have alternatives..anyone remember the hullaballoo when China hosted African leaders to a conference..

Kenya is a very good business opportunity for Delta. If they don't realise it soon and do something, someone else will come in and exploit it. Wasn't a very wise decision by Delta especially at this time when the American,European and Asian airline industries are suffering. And what matharau is that they are showing us?
