The country does not need elected deputy governors. Residents should only vote for governor who then picks a deputy from among the county executives, a deputy he can hire and fire at will for smooth county operations. From past experiences in machakos and embu and now nairobi, deputy governors can be a pain in the a$$, as they try to fight/outshine/blackmail their bosses.

Also it is deeply offending for someone to work so hard to be elected governor, then you tell him to concentrate on politics and leave the running of the county to his deputy, eti coz he (the governor) is incompetent to run his county.

Igathes resignation is the best thing to happen to nairobi coz wanainchi chose sonko to run the county and now sonko is free to deliver what he promised without having to consult third parties.

Even at the national level instead of ohuru freely serving the wanainchi who elected him he is made to prioritize pleasing his deputy (and his people), to the extent that he cant name his cabinet without consulting the deputy and even after such consultations he has to surrender 50% of govt to the deputy. This deputy manenos must be revisited both at county and national levels.

That would be a very useless ministry & would just waste public funds. Jubilee at its best.

The one under Kibaki did some great stuff like doing the nairobi spatial plan and facilitating the nairobi master plan. Those two documents set out the plan and strategy for solving most of Nairobi's problems but no one bothers to read them. Let us now allow Sonko build his ghetto metropolis...jubilee at its best.

Nairobi metropolitan encompasses the counties of Nairobi Kiambu Machakos and Kajiado. You think all those countiescan cease to exist?

Like it or not Nairobi County is here to stay. With Sonko running it alone. The lacunae in law may not allow him to appoint an assistant formally

Sonko cannot appoint his deputy. It's an elective post not appointment. Only Nairobians can elect the deputy, period.
As for Nairobi Metropolitan, it cannot exist. That would be against the constitution in regards to devolution. No governor can agree plus the court would throw it out of the window asubuhi na mapema. We're stuck with Sonko solo for atleast 2 years, the time it would take to enact and pass that law. The best option that I'm sure the president and his people are working at, is to get Sonko to reject Igathe's resignation and give him what he wants before Jan 31st.

I dont think that's correct

the ag already has a bill that provides for the governor to appoint a replacement subject to approval by the county assembly. could be passed and enacted pretty fast. however, whether it would be constitutional is another matter altogether.

No, governor can only frustrate his deputy, not fire him

My point is nothing changes life goes on.

Nairobi is not more special than Mks or Nyeri. Gov continues to serve.

Kiala was in all ways fired. He was left with no mandate or anything to do in the office. Just present in name.

If Sonko is wise, he should let Igathe fix Nairobi in their first term without eating then eat in his second and last term without Igathe as he would be guaranteed of being re-elected. Five years is but a very short time in politics.

Sonko is just but overwhelmed!!! Finally his skills & competency level is being exposed!!!

The same thing i thought. As an MP and as a Senator he could hide his managerial flaws. Right now he has been thrown to the deep end of the pond. He cant swim. He can only drown. Before he was riding a boat but nrb is a a yacht, that he cant navigate. Bure sana Sonko!

I think there's more than meets the eye. Igathe's demeanor on the interview with Mark Masai was that of a person ready to work and deliver services. The leaked conversation with Sonko was cordial.

I think when Igathe heard of pesa imeenda $99M he kinda panicked.

The ministry of Nairobi Metropolis in the offing...

The National govt cannot collect county funds.

Meeting in Statehse in the offing

Even the president cannot appoint his deputy he can only nominate. These are elective positions. It supposes that the position was won through partnership and not the popularity of the individual.

) Within fourteen days after a vacancy in the office of Deputy President arises, the President shall nominate a person to fill the vacancy, and the National Assembly shall vote on the nomination within sixty days after receiving it.

(2) If a person assumes office as Deputy President under clause (1), then, for the purposes of Article 148 (8), the person shall be deemed—

(a) to have served a full term as Deputy President if, at the date on which the person assumed office, more than two and a half years remain before the

This nonsense should stop. All county meetings should be held at nairobi county boardrooms. Why travel 500km away to mombasa county to discuss nairobi matters? This ojinga of using meetings as cash cows must stop.
