But this system where voters rank candidates by preference would be a disaster because even now where people just tick a box, the number of spoilt votes remains high. I am happy

Direct election of a President was introduced in Kenya in 1992. In the prior elections, the leader of the majority party became the president. From 1969 to 1992, there was only 1 legal political party, KANU, so, the leader of KANU always became the President. That direct election of the President in Kenya by the people in a ballot started in 1992. 2. That Mzee Jomo Kenyatta became the Prime-Minister of Kenya in 1963 and hence the President in 1964 by virtue of KANU defeating the other parties (KADU, APP, BPU, NPAU, CPU etc in the 18th-26th May 1963) and NOT Mzee Kenyatta contesting against another person(s). 3. That the 1969, 1974, 1979, 1983 and 1988 General Elections did not have Presidential elections as no one presented themselves to contest against the incumbents (Mzee and Moi). 4. That for the 1969, 1974, 1979, 1983 and 1988 general Elections, one was required to be a member of the then only legal party in Kenya, KANU, for him/her to contest in any elective political election. If you agree on the above, then it is true to say that Daniel Moi only contested in 2 Presidential Elections (1992 and 1997). Both of which he won. I rest my case. This thread took me down memory lane and reminded me of 'the seven bearded sisters' of early 80's and 'young turks' of early 90's. Orengo n rao are the only last standing who was in one or both groups, the others having fallen by waysides or joined the establishment. All who ever won the presidency were establishment guys. Is it a prerequisite to part of 'establishment' to win the coveted seat in +254?
