The controversial Election Laws (Amendment) Bill 2017 will come into force on Friday, with or without President Uhuru Kenyatta's assent, Aden Duale has said.

The National Assembly majority leader this will be the case as 14 days will have lapsed since the legislation was passed in Parliament.

Duale told The Star on Tuesday that Uhuru has the options of returning the Bill to Parliament with a memorandum for changes or signing it before Friday, failure of which it automatically takes effect.

This was Uhuru's plan all along. Very clever I must say. Looks like Jubilee has clever lawyers too after all.

What's the point? On Wednesday the courts will rule that there will be no election. The same courts can also rule that the new election laws are unconstitutional

WAPO: The Latest: Kenya Supreme Court urged to delay elections
Excerpt:
"Kenya’s Supreme Court is to meet a day before Thursday’s repeat presidential elections to decide whether the polls should go ahead if a credible vote cannot be guaranteed.

The court will hear a case brought by three Kenyans who are urging that the elections be postponed until the electoral commission can hold free and fair elections, as is mandated by the constitution."

The letter has been addressed to the High Court. I don't think it's the supreme court hearing the case

Americans may not know the difference between supreme and high court..

Question is, who are the presiding judges of the constitutional and judicial review divisions?

Justice George Odunga and Justice Roselyn Aburili. Ok. No election on 26th

The IEBC Lawyers should first ask justice Odunga to disqualify himself as he has proved to be biased against IEBC.

I doubt that was the plan. He will sign today or tomorrow. The new elections will be held under the amended elections act.

Is there an instance he has acted reasonable of late? Today in ukambani he reiterated that no elections on 26th.

Point of Information - In the spirit of Wazua, a judge does not rule on matters that have not been brought before him. The rules take effect on 27th, elections are to take place on the 26th.

So If Odunga rules to stop elections on 26th, on the 27th the new laws take effect and it will be a new ball game altogether

Ati Chebukati has signed an affidavit supporting the case against Thursday elections...

Man, I wish I was reading this in a fictional book. It'd be fun. The intrigues.

But now it's me and my country

Why would he need to sign a petition yet he is the IEBC chair and can call off the election if need be?

I am curious...what law he will use to stop the election? On one hand, the constitution is clear about the fresh election 60 days,...the original edict was issued by a higher court (so he has no business overturning rulings made above his paygrade) and then there is Mativo with his Orbiter Dicta stuff...you can't make a ruling based on stuff that hasn't happened as regards Chebukati and Akombe's statements,..this isn't the Minority Report,...so,..where is the zero-day exploit going to come from ? Fun times...

I think he will step off inside of 24 hours.
