KenRe vid 1H 2017 https://www.facebook.com...ideos/1513347512058887/

@Ebenyo - Unga will have an interesting 2017-18. I hope we get lots of "good" [not heavy and sporadic that causes flooding] rain in your grain baskets. We should not be importing so much maize and wheat.

KenRe has been hurt with the reduction in economic activity in 2017 as businesses scale back expansion plans as well as a slowdown in business. That is evident from 1H 2017 results.

@vvs I have earned both capital gains and dividend on various counters at the NSE, USE & RSE such as BOK, BRLW, COOP, HF, KCB KEGN, KENRE, SBU.. It's just that right now I am aiming for a different type of kill. By the way UNGA is likely to post a marginal profit if not a loss, while KQ will post a marginal loss if not a profit

Mandatory concession doesn't mean you will be efficient. You can have mandatory and guaranteed business and still be inefficient e.g
Telkom kenya,KQ,kenya Railways
Key is do your best with the opportunity given to you at a particular time

Well, KQ despite being designated the "National Airline" and protected with prime slots at JKIA could not cut the mustard...
KCAA has been reluctant to allow charter flights to Nairobi to protect KQ.
Fastjet was ostensibly denied certain rights to protect KQ.

KenRe has paid me a dividend since 2013 to me, has KQ?

Bottomline: KenRe remains a good investment choice vs many other firms. Is KenRe perfect? NO...
Is the Corporate Governance good? YES [until I hear otherwise]
Is it well run [at the moment]? YES...
Is KenRe profitable? YES
Is its P/B attractive? YES

i read somewhere in the news recently that Unga will install some new machines in their eldoret depot to save costs.I liked so much as the expense were too high in the HY which led to Full year loss.I will get back after book closure.

KENRE looks solid.I got their first dividends this year and i intend to keep it and add more over the time.its my only insurance counter and i will keep it that way untill otherwise.

Kenya Re unlike KQ, has virtually no competition if you consider the mandatory concessions. Corporate governance dead as a dodo @chief vvs .. You live to fight another battle! Never dispute exchange bar information..

Personally, I can now consider this counter. I really hated the lethargy Mwaraniaโ€™s team displayed. I will wait to see who is appointed.

Page 30 for market share info

Problem isn't market share and stuff.. It runs deep. Remember KQ is sincerely speaking, the only airline in East Africa but still made losses totalling over KES 61B in the last three years

Why are we discussing KQ on this thread?

KQ was even brought up in the Centum thread! And in the KK thread. Some folks can't handle profitable firms! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

I saw KQ too on the Safaricom thread as well as EABL.. Maybe it's just a popular firm :)

Good investments do not attract attention and passion. The converse is true for poor investments.

Take the most discussed stocks and stocks with the longest threads on Wazua and plot them against their total returns in the last 10yrs
. KQ, HAL, Mumias, Uchumi. The results will be obvious.

"You cannot make money buying what is popular" - WB applies all the time.

Spoken like 10 elders

Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly so true....human psycology is weird...instead of discussing good firms that can make you money instead most would rather bash in a non-performing company "glorify"in its failure...

Not true.
Some of feel we have a civic duty to call out the BS peddled by some "paid" liars. These liars portray a false image of the firm. Pump and Dump.
Also there are lessons to be learnt on how to assess a firm's management and performance. I have learnt many lessons from my unfortunate foray into Olympia and KQ. Lessons I try to apply to other investments e.g. debt:equity, corporate governance, management ownership, etc.

KenyaRe is an investment I made after selling off my KQ. It's not flashy, the CEO isn't on many (unrelated) boards, is cash rich and has a moat. KQ was/had none of these. It's share price is lethargic but I am a net buyer who loves discounted stocks. I can wait 5 or 10 years before there's a meaningful increase in price.

KenRe facing massive downward pressure.. We wish the travellers on this bus, a safe journey

Cough cough
