Back in the 90s, during the clamour for a new constitution, Moi argued that Wanjiku had no idea about making of a constitution
He was called names like dictator etc. Politicians and activists rushed to use cliché phrases like 'Let the people decide', 'Kenyans want', 'We the people' ad nauseam
My recollection of Ghai commission sittings (which I attended in my hometown) confirms Moi was right. We went there thinking katiba was dawa for everything in Kenya including rogue pastors and churches! Kenyans all over were saying we must force churches to have at least a school and a hospital! Kwa katiba!
The other thing is, we thought we were making the katiba for Moi. Hence most wanted university degree included as a minimum requirement and max age set at 75!
Moi was later proven right again when in 2008, we formed the committee of experts to write for us a katiba. They just customised sections lifted mainly from US system.
He was proven right again by certain sections in 2010 who said 'Kama baba amesoma na akaona iko sawa, basi iko sawa'
Others are proving Moi right today(2017) by quoting non existent sections of the katiba just because someone called a presser and told them it's in the katiba!!
